I like RED. I have produced TV shows, TV commercials and a feature film using the RED ONE. I have never had an issue with the cameras, despite the climate conditions, dust and long hours, the RED ONE always performed great.
My movie Cartas a Elena will open in Mexico shortly and after previewing the 35mm copy I was amazed by the quality.

Like many other users, I was following the Scarlet as a good option for television. A true HDSLR killer.

The 4k Scarlet is a great product. I’m sure I’ll rent this camera or the R1 on my next project, buy I was very interested in buying a 3K Scarlet with fixed lens for +- $ 7,000.

As many have posted, a $14 K Scarlet plus accessories is a $20 K Scarlet.

    Opportunity.
Why not continue with the Scarlet 3K, and serve the +- $7K market?
Call it the Scarlet mini, or Scarlet 2/3.
This will not cannibalize the Scarlet X or Epic market.
It will be a great alternative to the AF100 or F3 market.

I'm sure most of the R&D is already paid for.

How many here would like to see this program resurrected?

I would absolutely support this. I am not an expert on business, but I do not see any reason not to. Lots of money has already gone into the prototypes, so now that we have gone this far, why not just cross the finish line?

I think Red is at the top of the list in terms of who wants the 2/3 Scarlets to go on the market and sell. They did after all spend lots of R&D dollars.

Does anyone really think you spend likely millions of dollars developing a camera line, and then wake up and say, "fuck it, toss the whole thing out"?

It didn't end up working, and that is a sad loss for Red in terms of $$$, but also time... they invested rockstar R&D peoples time on a product that never shipped. Imagine if they had put all that effort into something else...

    coulda, shoulda, woulda...

Today we have Red Epic, and Scarlet-X. No point in pleading for something that isn't happening. Live in the moment with what exists today.

Many are interested but apparently nobody cares. In fact the fan- gang around here are denying the number of people crying for 3K @ $6K ~ $8K Fix or 2/3 models that were used as bait at the end of a bright RED colored hook to the days before the Nov 3rd announcement.
i have read most of threads after the Nov 3rd and here is a collection of un-official replies to suggestions similar to yours : ( no specific order )

Red rocks, Scarlet-X rocks, Scarlet-X is a PRO camera 3k was not, Can't afford Pro camera you are not a Pro go get FS100, 3K is the past 4K is the future, 3K is not future proof, 3K is not pro, Jim ... you are the man, Thank you Jim, Congratulations Jim, Scarlet-X is for Cinema anything else is for web, 3K for 3$K was just an idea, Things change, We don't serve people with bad attitude, you don't like Scarlet-X ..then why you are hanging around here, you should've saved more, it's $9k and not $14K, there is no other cinema camera @ $9K, some occasional name callings back and forth ...

i see today the number of Scarlet forum visitors are down from 7+ thousands to 1700. If you like to repeat your civilized suggestion i recommend to come back when all the fanboys are busy shooting their feature MOVIES with their brand new SCARLET-Xs out there so you don't get barked at. I am just taking a risk here too. These are my last visits to check on some civilized posts.
    Good luck man.

Lets not forget you can shoot 2k and 3k on the Scarlet X. You can use lenses with smaller imaging circles. Many 16mm format lenses will fairly much cover a 3k crop... I realize you aren't getting 120fps 3k, but mass production has its downsides. I guess that's all I have to add to it besides what I would consider a more than fair lease offer for 7 months with a lens.

Jim stated there was a fatal flaw in the fixed lens, it wouldn't hold focus thru the zoom range. Combined with the fact that it didn't meet future proof standards he stated that the 2/3 scarlet was over. I tried my hardest to bring the 2/3 interchangeable to his attention in the hope that we could have a redcode camera in the $6-7k price bracket but to no avail. I even pointed out that the current scarlet only resolves 3.2k so why scrap the 2/3 interchangeable because it didn't meet 4k? Thread link.

From what I've seen of the way things happen over the last 3 years, if Jim was going to announce that it was still alive he would have done so by now.

With the Blackmagic Cinema Camera announced at $ 3K and 2.5 K, I still think the Idea of the original Scarlet with fixed lens for about $6 or $7 K is a great idea. More prosumer than pro, and I do not know if RED would like to serve tho market, but many BMCC buyers will consider paying more (OK twice as much) and have a Scarlet Mini.

Somehow I don't think BMD is going to stop at 2.5K. If that is the case, I doubt RED will want to be at that sandbox.
