Now that I'm going to have a Scarlet in my hands soon, thinking about the post setup. I have a Mac Pro I'll be getting rid of (its power pc) and don't plan on investing in Apple stuff anymore. So it has to be a PC, and I got myself Avid Media Composer 5.5 (soon to be upgraded to 6) already.

Any thoughts on good machine/software configurations I can pursue that both include/exclude the Red Rocket card and address color correction?

    Thanks!

p.s. I realize there may be a thousand threads on this, but I'm thinking that given the news of Mac Pro retirement sooner or later, with all the new developments in the post world, and with Scarlet shipping this is a good time for a reset thread on this topic...? Hope so.

Thanks for the lead, Sascha! I don't think I'll build out my own PC. Anyone have PC boxes/cards/monitors they recommend for Avid MC 6 / Red Rocket?

    Great thread/starter…

Although we have a few Macs “floating about’, for our more intensive VR/graphics work we have to use PC’s as Macs do not yet have sufficiently powerful 3d rendering capabilities…(they are getting better though).

Does anyone know if any of the more common DI solutions that run on PCs are able to multi-thread properly or carry out some of the numerical operations in parallel using the latent processing power of a let’s say an absolute top flight NVIDIA card?

I know RED bases itself around REDROCKET just wondered if the Adobe’s and Avids of this world had any bootstrapped solutions that can grind through RED RAWS a bit faster than just what the host system cpu would normally offer? Trying to avoid having to buy quad core+ machines just for lack of effective software implementations.

    Any Ideas?

    Cheers,

    Eric

Thanks Brian! That was an awesome thread with some great info from you. I know you think building a custom PC is the way to go, but I'm hoping to get a system that's certified for AVID MC 6 **and** is able to work with RED ROCKET. I wish there were a list of systems thet RED or someone put together for people like me who wish to just purchase something off the shelf... its getting really hard and time consuming to explore all the options. Building a PC is out of the question for me. :(

An official RED-certified list of systems would be nice. =)

Are you wanting to buy a completely new system or upgrade an existing computer?

    @ Nikhil

Also, are you only going to be editing in AVID MC 6 or are you going to be using other software also?

If you are looking for a pro grade workstation tested and certified for Red, I recommend BOXX systems. They specialize in building professional graphics workstations and carry a three year warranty. Not your off the shelf Dell or HP business PC.
