  1. #1 Is it possible? - 2/3inch lenses when shooting 2k on Scarlet? 
    I know lots of people are into shooting on 2/3 of an inch cameras, especially for docs/wildlife, and are therefore annoyed with the Scarlet's sensor size but...

    Does anyone know if with the right lens mount you could theoretically shoot with TV lenses on Scarlet at 2k? What are the specs for these lenses? I'm guessing the image they produce on the sensor would be nearly the size of the 2k crop?

    Yes.
    You need a B4 adapter.

    Its all down to the mount.

    RED already did research and development on a brilliant set of 2/3 cine miniprimes most of them rated at T1.5, I hope they make a reappearance with a mount for eopic/scarlet

    16mm and S16mm Pl mount lenses are an option for 2k too. At longer focal lengths some S16mm lenses will cover 3k for better resolution.

    A really rad adapter is the Abel Cine HDx35. Which uses the optics in the adapter (which are necessary for any B4 lens) to expand the image to cover 4k.

    You lose 2.5 stops, which is a bummer. But otherwise, really cool.

    Sorry to dig out such an old thread but I'm wondering: Is the loss of 2.5 stops the only disadvantage or does the HDx35 also act as an 2x-extender by design?

    My understanding is that it loses 2.5 stops because it includes a >2x extender internally which expands the 2/3" image to 35mm. There isn't technically a loss of light, since it is just spreading out the same image circle to cover a larger area, but yes the focal length will increase proportionally as well as the fstop due to this transformation. The lens should essentially have the same characteristics (dof, fov, etc) using the HDx35 on RED 4k as it would natively on a 2/3" camera. So keep in mind you won't really get more depth of field (technically you will if your circle of confusion decreases in size relative to the focal length, same as the difference between putting it on a 4k 2/3" camera instead of a 1080p 2/3" camera). Also I would be very surprised if most 2/3" lenses performed much better on 4k than 1080p since they were all designed for 1080p with very strict size and functionality limitations.

    Basically I'd doubt the HDx35 gives much benefit over just using a 2/3" camera in most cases, unless you absolutely have to put a 2/3" lens on a 35mm camera for some reason.
