Guys, I think a lot of folks ordered Scarlet with the AL Canon mount.

This mount is a New RED Product and obviously there's still a bit of a backorder situation with the TI Canon mount, so some degree of nervousness here!

Could you guys throw us a wee crumb of comfort, and tell us that the AL Canon mount supply situation is well in hand, under Adult Supervision, and won't hold up the parade come Dec. 1st?

    Thanks!

    Mike

I'm somewhat reassured by the fact that at least the AL mount is not available separately and was not already backordered. Also the Canon AL mount is only available as part of the least expensive camera option RED has ever offered so they ought to have been expecting some serious product interest. I imagine this means that those of us that ordered AL may be in a better spot than some of the TI customers. Or not, but at least the idea gives me a little reassurance :)

I agree with you Noah. I feel (hope) that is why they never sold them separately. I'm so excited, it hurts.

At the scarlet event I recall them saying something about the aluminum mount would not slow down Scarlet deliveries. I think you're good to go.

I had said before, sometimes no news is good news. I believe that is still the case. Thus the whole Nov. 3rd date and confidence Red is showing by delivering what is proving to be a total game changer, again! I ordered the Canon AL Mount also on Nov. 3rd.

Actually, I was about to create a thread requesting that Red let us who already have orders on the titanium to switch to Aluminum - we never felt we needed titanium but Red came out and said that they weren't going to make the Aluminum. Now they have changed that again and it only seems fair that we have the opportunity to switch to the Al version. From the scarlet pricing it seems they are still working from the original $500 price for aluminum vs. $2000 for the Titanium. Hopefully it would be the same, but I wouldn't object to a (again, hopefully, small) price jump for the Aluminum mount - I want to see Red make enough to justify ongoing lens characterization, support and updates.

Yes from my understanding. I know they plan on selling the Nikon mount in the store as well when they finish it. I think they were guessing around December for that one.

I too have a Ti Canon mount on order, and am wondering why I'm spending an extra $1500 for it. I'd rather get media and batteries.

It's been mentioned elsewhere that the titanium mount is less susceptible to temperature induced shape distortion, expansion, and contraction. This makes the titanium more suitable for extreme conditions and you'll be able to easily remove/attach glass in those situations.

Titanium as a material is much more expensive to work with in the CNC milling world. It's much harder, tougher, and more time consuming to work with. It's unit price is also more expensive and materials for working with harder metals, like blades and drill bits, wear out faster. Where as, if you were determined to do so and likely intoxicated, you could carve an aluminum block with a good pocket knife.

In daily use for in average consistent operating temperatures I believe the aluminum mount will perform just fine. We'll all know that for sure in a couple of weeks.
