  1. #1 Redcine-X - Sync LE and RE Prior to Export
    Hello!

Trying to sync LE and RE R3D files in RCX prior to export.

(Exporting Epic 5K R3D files to separate RE and LE QuickTimes for testing with various NLE systems.)

I've searched RCX manual for "sync" but can only find audio sync info.

Any pointers or links as to how to make this happen in RCX -- so that I do not have to do it later in NLE or Cineform?

    Thanks in advance!

    Rick

REDCINE-X has the ability to join the Left Eye and Right Eye into one clip, this may be what you are thinking of.. This allows you to then then export that clip out as side by side, over/under etc but this doesn't sound like what you want though if you're exporting the files separately. The tools in REDCINE-X are there to save you having to deal with two separate files.

If you want to deal with them as two separate streams, then you should be fine to just sync them via timecode in your NLE or Cineform I'm guessing. However, I think merging the clips in REDCINE-X and exporting the two eyes as a single side by side (or your preferred method) clip should be an easier workflow.

    Thanks for the info, Sam.

Is there a way to sync LE and RE according to timecode in RCX prior to using "Make 3D Clip"?

Or is this something RCX does automatically when making a 3D clip?

    Rick,

RCX will automatically sync according to timecode when matching 3D clips.

    Awesome.

I also just found the "offset" dialog indicating offset between LE and RE in frames.

    Thanks, David.

Excuse an ignorant question but once you have created a 3D clip can you adjust the off set of the two eyes side by side? I see how you can adjust the look but not the offset. Also I can't render out the clip as a 3D clip. How would I do that?

    Hi David,

You absolutely can. You can change it from the metadata panel, or from the Stereo 3d panel. You can right click to enable the Stereo 3d control on the right panel of the app if it is not already.

To render out a 3d clip as a 3d clip, you have to choose a 3d mode in your export preset.

    Cheers,
    David

Thank you David. I have now found the relevant panels. This is a great tool.

Hi again. Sorry to hijack this thread but I guess this is another related question. If I want to adjust the vertical and/or horizontal convergence of my shots, I presume that you have to crop in to your image slightly to give yourself some room to move. I managed to do this once by a rather random process of pressing buttons and placing the cursor over the crop and pulling it around. However, I'll be blowed if I can do it again. So, what should I be doing to create a custom crop a few pixels into the frame? Also, related to this, are the numbers given in the convergence adjust of the Stereo3D pane arbitrary, or are they a pixel count?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Pixel count.

Set the crop area by making the crop resolution smaller than the format resolution.
