So how much? Maybe everyone should whip it out so we know what is what. Even you Dagsljus...How much...Its a reasonable question.

Also you mentioned contracting through private owners, whats that construction look like? Would that be an exclusive contract binding them to you? whats your cut?

If you for whatever reason feel more comfortable answering via PM be my guest. Looking forward to hearing again from you here or there.

    We are all ears.

    P.S.

And maybe anyone else looking to rent out their gear: lets get some concrete list prices NOW and day rates.

BTW Its not only gear we pay for its the service with a smile, so when we turn to the rest of Europe to fullfill our needs its for a good reason.

I'll chime in pretty quick since Im on yet another stupid deadline this week.. I aim at a 2,5% rental rate for "one day rentals".. Thats means around 5000 SKr/day for a basic package (Some CF cards/dual harddrives/LCD/yada yada :).. ).. I think its in pretty much the same range as Christian states on frameville.. I won´t let out my camera out the door without my technician though, because the day (or night) I'll need it, I don´t want to find anything not working 100%.. I know how DPs can handle a camera, and I don't have a spare/backup..

I hope my site is ready tomorrow regarding rentals... Anyone that wants to put their kit onto my site are most welcome (its got the nice adress www.red4k.se ;).. No, don't go there yet, because its something I did in 1 minute.. It shows :).... (New site is in flash with a nice Red feeling to it)...)!

I won´t put to much effort into the rentals side of things though, since Its not something I do for living as Dagsljus (That has a very good reputation btw, so Im a bit confused that you got so bad impressions by them, since everyone I know of thinks they are very good to have business with).

Very generous of you to offer folks a place on your site actually quite incredible.

Nice to post in English since everyone knows the language, and everyone can take part in the conversation that way. Until there emerges a Swedish Red site thats probably a fair request.

If you are surprized you can imagine my shock and disappointment. But not only me you see it started with someone else explaining their experiences. Where there is smoke there is fire. Its a monopoly here everyone knows it. They have no reason to deliver. Now with some heat they do. Words are not deeds. I want service for my money. Is that outlandish to request?

I want their prices as do other people who want to rent and other private owners. Its not so easy to get a straight answer from these people.

Your prices seem reasonable now lets see if they can beat that or if not what they have to offer to motivate it other than demand. Its not enough.

My recomendation is to open up the catalogue and directories and call around to the different companys in Eurpoe and go with whoever treats you well and can get the job done at an agressivly competitive price. You dont have to take shit from these people. I consider games ( Not answering direct questions with direct answers ) and nonchalance when I have my wallet out and projects waiting unacceptable arrogance.

Its a small world and the days of Socialistic monopolies are over for the most part. Thank God for this community and the private owners who support each other.

Mmm.. I think your taking this dark conspiracy theories too far ;) From what I know, dagsljus ordered 2 cameras (or 3? How should I know?) very early on. These are booked for feature films, so they simply don't have any more camera bodies right now. There is no point publishing prices, if you can't take any bookings anyway.

I didn't finish the new site today as I hoped. But it looks like it will be finished tomorrow..

"There is no point in giving prices if they can`t take bookings"...Fine.

Then lets get a network going so people can rent from each other without any middle men.

Thanks for the info and clearification.

No conspiracy theory just business solutions, everyone has their own models. There are perameters for everything. Definitions and practices, its just to hold the one up against the other and draw your own conclusions.

Its so simple to just answer a question thus eliminating the margin for conjecture. If not in print then over the phone. I have called them. No straight answer.

Anyway I dont give a flying f--k about this issue my needs are being met...else where.

    Lets move on now.

There is no secrets in our prices. Since this is a new technology and future is uncertain the rate is 2%, four days makes a week and longer jobs are quoted.
The difference is whats included in the package. Our normal kit without lenses costs little over 500.000 and our daily rate for that package is 9875 Skr.

When the market gets more saturated I'm shure that the rate will go down to about 1,5%.

In a country where nearly everything is subsidized those kind of prices make a lot of sense ( Which are a complete and utter rip off, surely rating as the most outrageously overpriced day rates on The Planet ): But hey - As I said everyone has their own model...More power to you.

    So with Red everyone wins.

-The establishment can continue to milk the tax payers.
-The independents who own their own gear dont have to ask Big Brother for permission anymore.
-And the poor fools with talent stuck in the middle can rent dirt cheap from the private owners that dont bind themselves to contracts with rental houses that horde the supply of Red One Cameras to keep up such ridiculously high prices.

Just hope these people understand that anything shot on cameras outside the official net will have a very difficult, if not impossible time finding distribution since nearly all channels are somehow one way or the other controled by the old guard.

So best to do stuff in languages that can reach bigger markets and an audience that is unbiased and willing to embrace quality for its own sake...

    A note: Register in another country;
    1. For tax purposes.
    2. Why should a System that works against you get credit in any way for your work? I would never submit anything with Swedens name attatched to it.

At the end of the day Communists and Capitalists alike share the common practice of Creative Accounting.

So everyone wins one way or the other...

    All is well in hell.

I am ready and willing to change the subject whenever you are.

Why do you sound so bitter about that Dagsljus is taking out 2% of the total kitcost. But you don´t mention a word about thoose who claim 2,5 %.

    Are you sober?
