Any advice? Does it matter which card reader I get, besides which one is fastest, are there some that are more reliable than others or is it all the same?

LEXAR Professional Firewire 800 CF reader. $54.99 from B&H, most everyone else has it for $65. The SanDisc FW800 reader is pretty good too.
Lexar, SanDisk, and Hama FW800 are the best ones I've used so far.
The true PCI-e expresscard one is pretty nice but the drivers are
a bit quirky with the expresscard coming out accidentally which can happen quite easily.
thank you
Keep in mind these readers are tested on a Mac which has one single Firewire chipset whereas PCs have many different makes and models. You're likely to encounter problems using them on PCs unless you verify beforehand that you have a chipset on your board that is known to work with them or you can get an add-in card with one. USB is still the best way to go on PCs unfortunately.
I have a Delkin Devices FW800 reader for my MBP that works great. Evin claims it is slightly slower than his SanDisk, but, there are times when the SanDisk is the 3rd device in a FW800 daisy chain and takes 30 seconds or more to mount the card - the Delkin always mounts and never takes more than 6 seconds. YMMV.
