    To RED...

I'm about to get into a LENS buying splurge... But before I do, I thought I'd better ask you (RED) if you guys are bringing out any new lenses in the future.

Reason for my splurge is that the 5k format (even though I love it) has killed a few of my wide angles due to vignetting... Such is life, But I'd like to change lenses than go back to 4k to fix the problem. And I like to have a set with the same dimension fronts.

I'm a PL man through and through, but I'm starting to drag the CANON glass out, especially for the wider stuff. But to be honest, even though the glass itself is good, the manual focusing on those lenses are a disaster. The 6k coverage they have is a major plus though and not to mention the price being very cheap! . But when it comes to focus pulling... PL glass reins supreme.

I rate the RED PRIMES and RED ZOOMS as the sharpest cleanest lenses every made... But I really would like something alot lighter and brighter with a F1.2 or 1.3 f stop.

So my question is, Are you guys going to be making light weight, bright PRIMES in the near future ? If so... I will be first cab of the rank as your current PRIMES are proof of your lens quality. If not... then so be it, but I have to ask...

We have the RED ZOOMS as well with the 50 to 150 being the sharpest ZOOM lens we own. Then 18 to 85 is just way to big and heavy for what it does.. Impressive lens optically, but just to big. I'd expect it to be a 25 to 250 at that size..

What we love about the 50 to 150 (and the 18 to 50) is it's light waight and the F2.8 stop. ... Discontinued for some reason, but would love to know if you will replace it with an equally small and light Lens of the same focal range in the future.

    Thanks RED.
    Look forward to your reply.

I seem to remember seeing a fairly recent mention of anamorphics again, though I don't remember when. I'll search Jarred and edit back...

Searching Jannard too... So far no luck.

My guess would be that if you need lenses anytime soon, buy another brand. Given the complexity of producing lenses, even if Red released a new set today, it would instantly go into backorder and probably stay there for a year. I was in the same predicament as you and finally this week just dropped a lot of money on a complete set of Canon L-Series glass. Now if only my Canon mount would just ship...

I'm going to second this question. It seems that with the smaller form factor, it would be wonderful to see a smaller lighter set of RED glass.

I don't know if it is even possible, but maybe the tech that went into the RED mini primes could be ported into a set of RED compact primes.

Having some of that older glass rehoused may not be a bad idea for pulling focus.

    Nice thread start. :)

I'm sure you all realize this, but just to quell any misconceptions, the Red mini-primes could be mini because they only had to cover a 2/3" sensor. I would also love to see some Red primes that don't double the weight of my camera, but I don't think they will ever be "mini".

Mark, I think the Red Electronic lenses may be your cup-o-tea.
I would expect zooms first. I would not expect primes but you never know...
They should be reasonably light weight and a Pro product, so a little chunky.
Focus electronically for motion with the Red Pro Remote controller,
smoothness TBD but at least as good as a Birger mount (count on much better),
The trick is to have decent manual feel as well....not easy if you want a fast auto focus.
99% likely to be f2.8/T3 and cover the typical ranges as used by Nik/Can etc
I will bet my britches on FF coverage for Dragon compatibility....

    and count on much drool....

Your Probably right about the Back oder if it happens because they would be extremely popular!...

I have a lot of glass here, I'm about to do a big sell up and a clean out... swap some stuff over etc. Trying to simplify my gear room, it's just boxes everywhere!

Was hoping RED would say YES or NO... That would make me either wait for it... or just buy new lenses to suite 5k + for EPIC and up coming Dragon.

I've got all the Canon L series glass from 8m to 600mm... But that Manual focus system is just bad, unless the RED EPIC starts to automatically pull focus (with canon glass) in a suitable manner... then Ill stick with it for sure.

The Iluminas seem to be the only Glass suitable at the moment that is light and bright... But I need to test them all before I buy. FRED... I have tested the old set (and own an old set) but I do have issues with vignetting still on the 18mm... I'm hoping your new model has solved this. but only a real world test will help me make a decision.

If you send me a set (including the 135mm) , I'll do a proper test and post results here... and if good, ill purchase off you there and then.. If not Ill send them back to you the next day in perfect order. :) and wont say a word online...

Hoping RED will answer... yes or no, so I can make a decision to wait or not.

    Thanks for your input guys.
