We have the RED ZOOMS as well with the 50 to 150 being the sharpest ZOOM lens we own. Then 18 to 85 is just way to big and heavy for what it does.. Impressive lens optically, but just to big. I'd expect it to be a 25 to 250 at that size..
I was surprised Red didn't update the 50-150... Very interesting focal range.

I'd be surprised if Red came out with some T1.3 lenses with their pricing and quality approach (high quality and very low price)... I reckon it is just too dificult and T1.8 isn't too slow (for most...)

T1.8 is fine for some beautiful shallow DOF.......
I have to swear by my RPP's, yes there big, but there sharp and price point is affordable to own.
Any new RED glass announced now, would be 6-12 months away from your doorstep, if your very lucky......!

    Here's my RPP 85mm @ T1.8, on a recent project.......i think that's shallow enough.......

Any one looked into the the new canon primes. I know the release date is sometime mid 2012. Just wondering if someone was lucky enough to get there hands on them. T1.3 and the size seems very interesting for EPIC.

I am a bit away from a lens set purchase, currently, but I know my main contenders are the Illuminas and the forthcoming Canon EOS Cinema lenses.

The difference between 1.8 and 1.3 is surprisingly a lot! especially in low low light situations...

Once you learn to shoot with bright glass, it's hard to go backwards....

When I see people paying serious money for f2 or f2.8 primes, I shake my head in disbelief... Just by a RED ZOOM and live happily ever after... :)

Mark, Did you got an answer from Red to your question? Even a private one? Just curious...

    Guys,

    look at my new avatar.

    Speaks for it selves.

Don't forget to think about recently RELOADED optical designs from Cooke Speed Panchros and new Canon EF Cinema Prime lenses.

Yes, they were both RELOAED older optical designs from aging Cooke Speed Panchro and Canon FD L/K35/EF L lens designs.

Although mechanical designs from both Cooke and Canon sets are brand new.

I came across some RED patents when the lenses were on the table, which I think were related to the anamorphic lenses if I remember correctly, (one of the names on the patent was a very well known individual in regards to their expertise in cinema lenses) but they don't seem to be in the patent system anymore, so I am guessing they are delayed or may have been scrapped, but I'm hoping they have just been delayed because of the various factors (new sensors, body designs, assembly line creations, etc.) and company expansions that have happened since then. We'll never know anything more about them until Jim or Jarred talks about them again and that is all there is to it until we are told otherwise.
