I am currently on my 5th Red Epic shoot, and we just got the new firmware with playback and some other really helpful goodies (I see the menu for button programming is much easier to navigate and choose from, etc) However, I'm still shooting with my Cooke's and they all still say 48mm in the lens data. The lens iris information works perfectly, down to every .1 of a stop. However, the focal length and resulting DoF ranges are not accurate.
Considering Cooke invented the i/technology and it is currently being implemented on all new Angeniuex, Sony, Red, Fujinon and DigiOptical lenses... you'd think that RedEpic would read them right. They should be speaking the same language (presumably with a slight english accent). Point is... considering Cooke established the system in use, you'd think that Cooke lenses would be the most likely to communicate through the i/technology system without issue. I'm no programmer, but this seems like this would be something one of your very talented Red team-members could likely solve over a lunch break. Please, please, please, have the i/technology contacts communicate properly. The iris is doing so... now please recognize focal length and focus! :)
I know I'm not the only one, because i've used three different sets of Cooke lenses on the epic, and they all say 48mm.... which is only borderline helpful when using the 50mm. The RedOne got it, now we need the Epic to.
:)
