    Hi,

I'm new on this forum ( waiting for a scarlet ) and I wonder if there is a way to use my old minolta rokkor primes on it. I tried to search but didn't find anything about this subject. I saw the "all star" mount which allows to use several different lenses but not the minoltas.

    Thanks for your help

Yes, via an MD to EF adapter.

You would have to have an optical element in order to achieve infinity focus if you convert it to EF mount. The flange distance is shorter on MD (43.5mm) vs. the EF mount (44mm). Though it should be techniclly possible to produce an interchangeable mount for the Scarlet, but I don't think anyone has.

I may be wrong, but I think you can get older minolta lenses on the scarlet like this:

    1) Start with the Allstart mount, and get an M42 adapter from Allstar.
    2) Then just put a Minolta MD --> M42 adapter on the rokkor lens, and you should be good to go.

But this is just an educated guess.

If this can be useful for someone, I found what I was looking for. I contacted these guys: http://www.cinemods.com/ and they sold me a Minolta mount. I just received it, unfortunately I don't have my Scarlet yet but the quality of the product is great.

Wow, kind of amazing. How much was it? I just bought a MD 58 1.4 and kinda hated it. I thought I'd love it, but compared to my Contax 50 1.4 it looked like a Yugo (build, and image quality).

But there are some amazing MD lenses, I readily admit. The 24 2.8 they designed for Leica comes to mind....

I don't think that the 58mm 1.4 has a good reputation, the 58mm 1.2 is better. I'm very happy with the build quality of the rokkors I have bought so far. Here is two useful links about the old minolta glass:

Yeah no I'm pretty familiar with the Rokkor glass. I've read those Rokkor files many times over! Yeah, the 58 1.4 is a huge dud.

But the 58 1.2 is legendary. Do you have it? Its an Alt lens classic. The 24 2.8, 28 f2, 35 1.7, 50 1.2, 58 1.2, 85 1.7 are all supposed to be stand out. I know one of the wides is great (20 or 21), the fishey is great. They have one awesome macro. And the 500 f8 mirror lens is considered one of the best ever - and its autofocus!

My father is shooting an indie movie on his set right now, on the FS100. He's owned Minolta and Leica glass since the 70s...

For those who are interested, I have currently my 58mm f1.7 Rokkor working on the Red Eos mount with a nice slim MD MC to EOS adapter ring.

The key is that the backfocus adjustment on the Scarlet has enough movement to compensate for the 0,5mm pluss a bit more from the adapter ring.

I'm getting focus to infinity on these lenses. (But it is a hassle to adjust all the way back to canon lenses again, so I might get another mount. But for checking out a couple of lenses this is just fine.)

I called RED tech support, and they confirmed that there is no danger in adjusting backfocus this much. It should be done slowly and with a gentle hand though, according to the manual.

Just to emphasize, this is not an adapter with an optical element, just a plain ring.

In other words this statement which normally is perfectly correct, is not quite correct anymore due to the excellent red sensor adjustment solution. (see my former post)
