Looking for some help with a time code generator and multiple cameras + an audio recorder + Denecke digislate.

Wondering if the following would work:

AJA Gen10 for GenLock/Sync and then a Denecke SB-T, to BNC to XLR adapter, to a For.A ADA-205A 1 x 10 Distribution Amp for Time Code. Then an XLR to 5-pin Lemo into the Cameras and Sound Devices 788T Recorder, and a XLR to 1/4" to the digislate.

That seems like an awfully complicated route. I would allow the audio recorder to be the master timecode generator for the entire project. Rent or buy enough Denecke SB-T's or Ambient Lockit boxes, one per camera. Slave each one, one at a time, to the audio recorder. Attach the SB-T to each camera (with genlock and TC inputs). Jam the slate to the audio recorder. Rejam every 5-6 hours, just in case. This is how it's generally been done on all the multi-cam projects I've done.

Tying all the cameras up with a 10X DA is a lot of wires, and you also don't get genlock reference that way.

I don't want to jam timecode, I want to leave everything connected at all time.

I've seen it done the way you're suggesting and it was a real mess. In the end a couple of the cameras weren't in sync at all because they ran out of time to troubleshoot the incredibly complex set up.

I use an iPhone app to generate t/c and have a dual Red One/Epic cable on the other side. I casually wander from camera to camera jam syncing and they are always to the frame.

    For me simplicity trumps.

Jim - you are using an iPhone app as the master?
Can you tell me the app?
    Thanks

    Yep. JumpStart LTC. $19.95.

Have the R1 and Epic T/C cable from Red. Go out 1/8" inch from the iPhone and convert to BNC.

Have used it on 8 multicam RED shows and it works great.

I was wondering if you need to setup all cameras at the same time or does the app keeps the TC running (even after the app has been quit/relaunched) so you can resync a camera on its own after a battery change or reboot... or do you have to resync all cams again in such a case ?

    thanks for the info

Don't you need to need to re-jam after every power down? As a result, we'd need to re-jam after every camera move, no?

Yes, we need re-jam after reboot or camera shutdown (for example on a documentary shoot)...
I was wondering if all cameras/audio equipment need a re-jam at that point if a single camera is restarted (if the iphone itself was locked or app quit) or if the apps somehow keeps the sync and we could only re-jam the restarted camera (as long as the others stuff kept running or stayed jam-synched)...

Deneke has an app also that generates TC to jam to slates or cameras. Not a master generator because the iPad/ iPhone clock will drift.
