I'm sure this has been posted in the forums somewhere, but I can't find it. What are the best lenses if you're gonna use a canon mount on the scarlet? I heard there's a crop factor, so what would be best to counter that? Thank you!

Lenses are a personal choice. No artist ever chose a pigment based on another artist's internet advice--really, the lens makes the picture, the camera just writes it down.
Unless you need autofocus and straightforward, photographic-truth images, look beyond Canon.
In general, older lenses tend to generate a more subjective, possibly a more "filmic" look. Use Flickr etc. to find something you like--sharp crisp images? Old Zeiss Contax. Less clinical but still sharp, a feeling of old school wash? Pentax or Zeiss Jena. Bright color rendition and fluid soft focus? Manual focus Nikkors. The pre-AI are especially cheap, focus easily, and look damn good.
All of these can be adapted to Canon mount. Look up what you want, find the $20 adapter on ebay (or buy a nicer one), and experiment with cheap old lenses. Newer autofocus lenses might work with the Red autofocus, but old lenses are cheaper, more interesting and to be honest more fun. You can always pick up a Canon zoom later on.
I'd say the Tokina 11-16mm is a must have. Got the Canon 24-70mm for run and gun. Still debating between Canon L or Zeiss ZEs for my primes.
Hey Jarek, just curious, is the above lens you have the f2.4 with no I.S or the f4 with I.S? Trying to decide wether the aperture is more important than the I.S at full focal length for shooting motor sport close up...any thoughts you have on that lens would be awesome!
Cheers
McKay, have a quick chook at this thread....

And a lot of great info here:

Hope it helps
Canon 24-70 is a no-brainer..it shows little to no breathing..check out this clip
follow the you tube links to see where he does exact same test on the Canon primes..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FYSrRYJqnMThis in one of eight clips which display focus breathing / image shift on three lenses. The Canon EF 35mm f1.4L, EF 50mm f1.4, and EF 24-70mm f2.8L. Surprisingly the 24-70mm zoom lens exhibited far less breathing / image shift during focus compared to the two primes.
Steve, excellent links mate, just what I was looking for! Thank you.
