  1. #1 Canon EOS 1D Mark III
    http://www.dpreview.com/news/0702/07...s1dmarkiii.asp

Canon annouced their Mark III for PMA. 10MP only, not 32. It's not full frame! It uses a 1.3x focal length crop factor. It uses two Digic III processors to enable it to shoot 10fps! "Highly useable" ISO 6400, ultrasonic dust removal, uses both CF and SD/SDHC cards.

I was expecting the announce of the EOS 1Ds Mark III.
November 3rd is likely to be the most watched day in Reduser history. It will be well worth it.

10 fps could be fun tough... for film making experiments.
I’ve in the making of a film with my Nikon D200 using it as a plate and shooting details in dvc pro HD. Also shooting 4 fps for some shots. It’s a very fun and a cheep way to produce high quality images.

Im sorry but 32 megapixels on a 35mm sensor is just going to produce horrible imagery. Oversampling may compensate but your talking about photosites so tiny that their ability to drink light may be comparable to cheap 4 megapixel cameras.

They did the smart thing by going down a notch, because I think 10-11megapixels is a sweet spot for sensors of this size.

I think I figured out, all things being equal, if you had a full frame sensor with the same size pixels as on a 20D 8mp camera, you'd have 22mp. With this new mkIII, they've shrunk pixel size, but they're also improved the pixels to compensate, so all things are not equal :-)

Yes but if it had been full 35mm frame it could have been 12-16MP. And I was thinking 48mm frame for 32MP.

Makes you wonder, if it can shoot 10 fps at 10.1mp if you knocked it back to 3.1mp at 24fps would it be able to write each frame fast enough that it would be able to write continuously (Rather than for just 110 frames at 10.1). It'd be about three-quarters the ammount of data it is currently trying to push through per second. If so you could shoot 2k with it :) (2048×1536).

You could actually lower the ammount of data further by cropping the height to 1152 for the 16:9 aspect ratio (2.36mp). That would mean the ammount of data being pushed through was just over half the ammount it currently is per second @24fps.

Canon will never introduce larger than 35mm formats because it would render their current lens family obsolete. Maybe the imaging diameter of certain 35mm lenses would cover a 48mm area, but all factors taken into consideration, i doubt it. I would love more than anything for canon to shift into the medium format digital game with 65mm sensors and such, but I dont see it happening!

Would you say that 22mp would be pushing the depths of the 35mm digital format? I think so but not so much due to technology, just physical limitations. For one, how much more detail can a good lens resolve into that small amount of space? Venturing past 22mp using the current lenses available, wouldn't you just be producing a finer grid of the same detail?

Yes I see, they would be very limited with their EOS lenses with detail, focusing, distortion, and area.

Though, I have a feeling that if Canon got into this market they would dominate. And sooner or later they'll have to. Pentax is already getting into 48mm digital.

Oh yeah.. Canon would totally rule in the medium format world. Makes me wonder why they've shied away from this segment. I for one would buy a reasonably priced medium format digital from canon in a heartbeat. The Phase's and Hassy's are great, but a tad too expensive for an amateur photographer.
