Had the pleasure of shooting with a scarlet today. DPed a short. The camera is Ryan Koo's. with a great number of #0072 :)

The camera had only a LCD screen and a Brick battery. The Side handle had not arrived, and the there was no BOMB EVF. It's a bit clunky in that configuration but it worked, smoothly and reliably despite the cold.

Things i like: (obviously the image is amazing...)
1: The size was amazing. Especially capturing 4k RAW in 16bit. even in the smallest form you can still capture maximum quality. Awesome.
2: The Ti PL mount is simply a work of art.
3: location of run stop buttons. EXACTLY where you think they will be. Blind and having picked up the camera for the first time....
4: The LCD image is quite nice to looks at, and the lay out of the menus is cool.

    Things i Dont like:
1: When you hold it like a Hassy, a jet of hot air goes up your nose from the heat sink. Annoying.
2: without a side handle, its practically impossible to have a secure grip on it. (the Side handle should be mandatory and come with the camera)

    Thats about it....

Thanks for your mini-review. Glad to hear you enjoyed working with it. I am really looking forward to getting mine.

As for your comment about the side-handle: there are other ways to grip the camera. The outrigger handle is quite popular as is the top handle. Obviously none of these were included in your Scarlet, just wanted to point out that there are other ways to grip it.

I will. it was a test, but as opposed to doing a test like charts and stuff, we made a short film. I'll let the cameras owner chime in when hes ready.

As soon as its Edited graded and ready for prime time you can be sure we will post it up!

I highly recommend the x leather side handle. It's simply the best!

I had my screen off to the side at first too but the weight was pretty off center. My battery plate just came in today and I've got the weight nice and evenly distributed now, will shoot some stuff soon!

    Hi Mitch,
Thanks for the photo. I was looking into the x aks. They have some great stuff. Just a query about your setup there...the battery seems very close to the top handle. Is this a problem at all? Are all these aks from x, V Lock plate as well? Many thanks
    Pete

Just ordered top and side handle form x also. I'm intending to mount the touch off to the side on the Side handle. But was thinking the DSMC side handle will provide the counter balance...?

    Best
