Saw it this morning and I am still buzzing. Don't expect it to be claustrophobic like alien or gungho like Aliens...it is its own beast and man is it a ride. It looks incredible in every way. The 3D is subtle for the most part but the HUD stuff is awesome, as the sandstorm (which is also in the trailer). Its definitely not slow on the uptake. The opening sequence is insane. It looks incredible, the sets look incredbile. The FX are top notch. The cast are completely solid. Yes Fassbender is fantastic, ad is Theron and the rest of them...I especially like Sean Harris character (Harris is a great actor anyway -- remember the addict/dealer in Harry Brown).

The film is not perfect, however right now I still haven't returned to earth and cannot truly identifiy them (nor do i want to). Is it everything I wanted it to be,after waiting so DAMN long to see...A positive yes. Does it belong in the Alien Canon? Yes it certainly does. Just try not to do the comparison thing when you see it. Try to enjoy it for the story that is being told. Not how it fits into Alien.

The questions it asks are pretty big, however do we get any real answers...can't really talk about this until more people have seen the film.

Its difficult to go into detail about cinematography or effects, without really giving away plot points but put it this way it couldn't have looked better...Everyone who worked on it should be truly proud. RED should be truly proud (yet again).

SO yeah I kind of enjoyed it!!!

Must see in IMAX 3D. 4K is 4K and I do love it, however you don't get the IMAX sound nor do you get a masking free screen. The great thing about IMAX (Experience or True IMAX) is that the front of the auditorium is 100% IMAGE. For 3D that really means something.

I saw it last night. I was knocked out by how beautiful the footage looked. I was going to see it in 2D but went to the 3D showing and I'm really glad I did. I can honestly say it's the best looking 3D film I've ever watched. To sit and watch it and know I own the same camera that had shot such impressive footage was a real buzz.

I really enjoyed the story and the directing wasn't what I expected - It was better. I'd certainly place it highly on my all time favourite movies list and look forward to seeing it in Imax when I get the chance. You know a good film when you want to see it again straight away. It was right up my street as story telling and setting goes. For anyone who's a fan of the original Alien I can't see how you wouldn't fall in love with this movie, it touches on the cannon of the films yet moves into new territory and becomes something else.

MOST of all - Anyone who has ever doubted the Epic as a camera has simply got too see it. Absolutely stunning from start to finish - EDIT - I wanted to add, anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not a Red fanboy, I don't wax lyrical about Red all the time and have vented my fair share of frustration in the past about certain things. I'm very realistic about technology so for me to say this is really exciting, I genuinely felt that it surpassed anything I'd seen in a cinema before.

I've seen it, but was not very enthusiastic, and disappointed and with me, was anyone else with me (of my friends)

Footage looked great, went to the 2D screening.

But narrative was really messy. It started of great, with some very nice visuals in the prologue. But once the movie reaches 45 minutes, I really had the feeling the screenwriters and didn't seem to have a good idea of where the story was going. Suddenly all kinds of elements get thrown in (some very nice nasty scenes), but most of it doesn't stick.
Pitty, because it starts of nicely and it has some thematically great potential. But the payoff isn't there, it seemed very sloppy screenwriting.

One of my friends who was with me told me it's the same screenwriter of Lost. I don't know if that's true, but if it is, I'm not surprised: a lot of interesting questions get thrown out, but once the movie has to give some payoffs, it gets messy very quick.
Music score wasn't Really impressing either.

But again: nothing wrong with the visuals.

Man this movie is getting hammered pretty hard on the net. Everyone says it looks great but the script is a mess. These negative reviews are really taking the wind out my sails. This was easily my most anticipated film and I'll be crushed if it is anything less then the perfect film my mind was imagining. Did we just set the bar to high? I really wish I had dialed down my expectations. I'll be honest, I was expecting Blade Runner level storytelling.

"Touched by a masterpiece, a person begins to hear in himself that same call of truth which prompted the artist to his creative act. When a link is established between the work and its beholder, the latter experiences a sublime, purging trauma."- Andrei Tarkovsky

The good news is, you still have time to lower the bar before you go see it : )

I saw it in IMAX 3D, though it was a 2K copy apparently, but I'm not complaining. The film itself was amazing, I really dig the EPIC look on the giant f-n screen in 3D (and 2D, too). Still there was some distracting things mainly related to 24 fps in 3D, in static shots it was okay, but the blurring and the strobing during camera movements, ugh, it takes all 3D effect out. I'm now even more excited to see The Hobbit in IMAX 3D projected at 48 frames per second.

I saw it last night. And I have to agree completely with Mathieu. Great looking footage, but the story wasn't great.

That is also what I think. I came home with a lot of questions in my head, many elements that were leading nowhere . So I was also disappointed :(
    But indeed, visually good.

They were still writing the script of Gladitor while they were shooting it... they only had 13 pages when they started shooting. Must be a Ridley thing :)

    Yes, Damon Lindelof co-wrote it.
With someone supposedly called Jon Spaihts. Is that a pseudonym?
