Wow! Nailed it! (what I loved about the original Alien and didn't even realize it!)

Actually, god's honest truth, the biggest bummer about Prometheus was the complete lack of giant black penis creatures! All we got was a silent, buff, waxy alien with big pretty eyes. I'm not even mentioning the squid because they're just not scary, they're comical. I want my money' back!!

They are 20 times lighter then R3D, cheaper to backup and you can store them in a cheap 1.8" usb drive.
Then, I insist, EDL and relink to R3D.

I've to wait a couple of months to watch this film in theaters =/
    DNXHD36 is 1/6th the size at 1080p....
i have $130 1.5tb usb 3 external drives that hold 5+hours of 5k...and can edit right off the drives....so it's not like you cant store raw on USB drives....it may be cheaper to backup.....but you still have to backup the RAW right? So now you've added 1/6th more filesize not to mention countless hours of rendering the proxies..
if you are using final cut, I can understand...but online offline is a dying breed as we get modern software and hardware....
not sure what the big 'sin' is editing raw...

As a writer, it is quite difficult to put something together that it successful especially when you have everyone and their cousin looking for problems. If films like 2001, Blade Runner or Aliens were released today, they reviews would be equally mixed.

I would have loved to see IMDB posts about 2001 if it were released today, "Oh my God, most disappointing sci fi film ever. What the hell was up with those monkeys? It seemed liked that stupid scene would never end and I could totally tell that they were dudes in monkey suits. It was like three hours of dudes walking around a spaceship saying nothing and then it gets all trippy and pretentious. Seriously, the movie explained nothing and the ending was beyond stupid. For real, the dude turns into a space baby? Retarded. I guess the evil computer was cool but otherwise, this was a total waste of time and money. 2/10"

I can see what you mean. In the years since, 2001 has gained the respect of critics that were formerly harsh. But the problem I have with Prometheus is that rather that inspire a sense of awe and "what if" as did 2001, it seemed to suck the oxygen of science out the story. Its not as if its questions weren't answered (in good sci fi they don't need to be) but that they weren't asked at all.

I just saw Prometheus and I think that just about every criticism I've read so far is bunk. Some want more blood and gore. Some want answers. Some want questions. Some were expecting to see god: but they'll need to pay the boatman more than twenty bucks for that honor, and they'll need to travel through a few more layers of purgatory first.

It does feel so very appropriate that this creation was birthed with the help of the RED camera.

People might have a few things go say about the story. Personally, I left the theater asking questions and looking forward to re-watching the first two films but NO ONE can say the film didn't look great. I was expecting to see some noise in the dark locations but these guys did a fantastic job and it reminds me, I have much to learn. The Epic help up under fire.

I would probably enjoy a longer version.

There was a handful noisy shots in there...and surprisingly they weren't the darkest scenes! Someone said that there were limitations with light because of 3D? But that didn't really make sense to me....

Yeh muted response from the critics ......but I don't give a dam . I'm trying to remember critics response to the original "Alien" & "Aliens" something about B grade plots or something from memory....& look at how these films rate now.

Anyway great SF film sure there are some story line bits "like the snake' that are a little overdone ...so what this is SF. Obviously "Star War's" never had any "snake bits" !

Yes, this movie raise questions...... so what.........if you don't like questions go see a Disney movie or a Rom.com. ; )

Dam this is a handsome film & dam this is SF at its best, apart from 2001, Blade Runner & maybe the 1st "Star Wars'. So don't be turned off by the naysers see it & bask in great 21st century cinema.

Alien and Blade Runner: Good simple plot with maybe one or two sub stories. Great momentum... starting slow and building well like all great art. Telling the story in the characters actions not their dialogue: the number one aspect of a great script. About human journeys. Building tension via suspense. Good looking lead character with charisma which is attractive. Surprise, never guessing what will happen next but when it does it feels totally plausible. Characters you care for and when they die, you wish they didn't.

    Promethius: None of the above.

Yes, i would give Rilpley a job on a space ship for mining. No I would not give that other woman a trillion dollar voyage because she saw 4 black circles on some cave in Scotland which made her feel uneasy about her necklace which represented her dead father. Seriously.

1/6? Are you using compression of 16:1 at 5K? Or 10:1 at 4K?
I'm talking about 5K Full 5:1... And some shot at 3:1. Single disk USB can't sustain a speed of 90-140 MB/s every time in every part of the disk, specially if your disk is big and you files are placed really far from them self and the magnetics heads have to work a lot.
And what if you need more then one flux at the same time?
In 1.5TB you can store 5h of 5K, it's right, probably is good for spots or promotional videos of some minutes, but a short of 10 minutes usually have around 10h of data, do you work with 3TB of data?
you can have the same amount of footage in 60GB in a 2.5" hard drive bus powered and you can edit where you want in a lite setup :)

The edit will be at least of three days? Good, spend the first night to transcode when you're ssleeping :D

Excuse me for the Off topic
