UPDATE for HDR-X BUG In BETA BUILD 2.0.8!!
    • Fix for camera not booting with HDRx enabled

    EDIT

I posted this Bug with full believe that this Bug was first reported by one of our crew Members when it first happened in his camera, as I requested that,
and posted here now to help our community be warned while RED works on the solution before releasing the Build,
so that those that want to use it on the Beta Built 2.0.5 do so with this in mind.

I want to publicly apologies to RED TEAM for not having made sure it was reported, and for having just today sent the Log File.

    ...

Okay this is to warn you guys using Build 2.0.5 and going to use HDR-X...

On new year's evening it literally KILLED one of our EPIC (our Star position one actually) on the most crucial moment of shooting the World's tallest Building Multi Million Dollar Firework display!!

The camera just simply give no life to the LCD and only would give the Color Checker Board on to the EVF, completely non responsive, wan't allow to even RECORD
even if we could not see what we were recording the camera was already positioned with an UP 8R so we could have still gotten the shot, but simply wan't record either.

No matter what I did... NOTHING!!

Back at the hotel, tucked several re-Instal of the Upgrade to finally at last have the camera back up and running again... ;)

LESSON LEARNED, my first EPIC FAIL since we got M8 about a YEAR ago, could have not come at a worst time... :(

    To learn form this:

No matter how much gear you are overloaded with, NEVER leave with out your laptop, and SSD Reader, and with a pre-formatted SSD,
best have a 64GB SSD already pre-formatted and loaded with the Build Force Upgrade folder of your choice, so if anything like this happens to you,
you don't get SCREWED as I did, one thing for sure I'll NEVER be cough off guard AGAIN, not EVER... ;)

    Sorry to hear this.

How was HDRX the problem? I've been using 2.0.5 and have shot lots of HDRX with it. Did RED advise against HDRx after seeing the camera logs?

Just want to know how HDRX was a factor?

    Let me explain why David,
It also happened on Joseph's Epic M and I was able to remove HDR-x mode via the Redmote set to local as we were also blind that time no image on LCD or EVF, as soon as I had turned off HDR-X the camera was fine again.

On my m however the Redmote unfortunately had no communication with the camera, an other issue to do with my Redmote nothing to do with the camera failure do to the HDR-X even so if Inhad a working Redmote I am confident I could have resolved the Bug issue in the same matter!!

Unfortunately I was double screwed in that I didn't had a working Redmote either... :(

Also yours is an X this were both M cameras not sure if this had anything to do with it or not, but yeah I'm sure it was HDR-X to blame as my actions and results did prove that.

    Thanks Ketch.

I think the X and the M are exactly the same camera except the machined bodie. Electronically they are identical and share the exact same components and Firmware.

Sorry to hear about all of this.

Did this happen "AFTER" the fireworks started? or before?

Maybe it was the rapid series of flashes that HDRX compression was having trouble with.

Either way. I am sorry to hear this and I hope it works out OK.

Yes of course David they are one and the same yet they are not, but still needed to specify that this were the Pre-Production M cameras that this happen on and not the Production run X cameras... ;)

Never got to shoot a single frame of the Fireworks on this camera, it never got to work since 15 minutes prior to the 12:00 AM starting of the fireworks had failed... :(

I am pleased that this is the First time ever I have had any issues, yet extremely disappointed has happened in such an important assignment, especially since
mine was the "A" camera do to its privileged position, and made the other 3 Cameras footage not even close to cut the Edit we were going for it.

Lesson learned, and for this I post, never go on site without your Laptop, never leave without a copy of your latest Builds, both Release and Beta if you are on the last one,
never leave without your SSD reader and or an SSD Card with already the Force Upgrade build on it to completely Re-Instal the Software on your camera in cases like this.

Mine was a complete fail, do to partially not having a Working Redmote, and mostly for not having been prepared as I always am, and for the first time get cut off guard,
and i paid the price for it severely and so did my important client... :(

I promise you it will never happen again, just that I get paid the big box because I always am prepared and always have a fix to any situation and pride my self in been able to get
always the camera to work, so this was also a bittersweet experience to have this happen... Again, lesson learned, and for this i posted here, don't get cut off guard, always bring the
above listed with you, have a working Redmote and chances are you always find a solution to this kind of issues when using BETA Builds!!

    Ketch,

    The rule No. 1. is:

Back up camera is a must

for any kind of money making business and

with any sort of digital camera either

Epic, Scarlet, Canon, Sony, Arri, Panasonic,...

And especially if you are dealing with a BETA camera,...!!!
