  1. #1 Error Decoding Frame in Redcine-x Pro v9 with Red Epic footage.
I've got 5k Anamorphic footage shot on the RED Epic, I'm trying to use REDCINE-X PRO to create mxf media for Avid. I've set my framing to Width 2x, I'm transcoding to DNx175 10-bit (because there isn't a ton of footage), and I'm using the Mitchell software scaling preset. I've successfully transcoded one roll, but all rolls beyond that report "Error Decoding Frame". I can view the clips in the entirety within REDCINE-X PRO. I realize that doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility of corrupt clips, but that leads me to believe it might be more of a software issue with REDCINE-X PRO. I've tried REDCINE-X PRO version 8 and version 9. Tried REDCINE-X Build 506 (both 32-bit version and 64-bit version), I have tried transcoding on two separate systems and tried to transcode the clips directly in Avid Media Composer 6 via AMA. I've even created disk images of two of the troublesome rolls and ran REDundead on them, but that didn't yield any results. Any advice would be appreciated!

    Hi Richard,

Can you take a one frame .R3D Trim of a troublesome clip, and email that along with your export and framing settings to redcinex at red dot com?

    Thanks,
    David

Hi Dave. I'll be home later tonight, and will send that to you. I've never exported an R3D trim, I've always converted to mxf. Is exporting an R3D a simple matter of building an export setting such as my Avid mxf export setting? Thanks!

    Hi Richard,

All you have to do is click the R3D Snapshot button on the Viewer. It's to the right of the Set In Point Button.

    Thanks,
    David

Same problem here with 4K files (Red One, RedCode 9.1, Mysterium-X S35) trascoding with RedCine-X v506 or RedCine-X Pro v9 to QT Avid DNxHD 36 1080p.

Just upgraded to RedCine-X Pro v10 and now it's rendering without problems. Hope it helps!

EDIT: Bad news! RedCine-X v10 says the files are rendered and finished without problems, but the QT files are 100% black frames.

Matias please send us a RCX log file to redcinex at red dot com.

RCX always inserts black frames in place of frames that fail to decode, there is a bug in build 10 which doesn't alert the user to a corrupt frame. (this has been fixed for the next build)

I'm trying to render with MPEG Streamclip: some clips rendered fine, others didin't. Any ideas why this is happening?
