Is there any reason http://www.globalmediapro.com/dp/A00...-Battery-95WH/ wouldn't power an EPIC/SCARLET?

Aw, damnit. I didn't notice that. I ordered 2 of the Li95DS batteries (because of the battery display). It says the max load for those is 60w. Will that work for the Epic? Is it bad to use a battery's max load? Or am I better off changing my order to the 160s? Hopefully I can get an answer ASAP...I think my order is scheduled to ship tomorrow or the next day!!

I'm pretty sure the batteries they have specifically for RED cameras are no different than the others, with the exception of the circuitry to display battery percentage. And I think the 95wh batteries should work fine, since the cameras won't always be drawing 60 watts, but someone else who is a bit more knowledgeable might want to chime in.

Ok, so I switched my order from the 95wh to the 160wh. They were only $70 more and weighed just under 1lb extra, but I get more than an hour extra shooting time. The max wattage is also more meaning I can utilize the D tap. I went with the DS series batteries because they have the LCD display showing remaining %. Im using the VF battery plate, so my understanding is that even with the GlobalMediaPro "Red" batteries, the info wouldnt be passed through anyway. Correct?

Correct. You'd need a different battery plate.

So with the VF Plate it would be unnecessary to get the "Red" batteries from GMP since the info wont go through right? But the VF plate will show wattage on any battery correct?
Trying to keep my cost down, just got a VF Plate.

Some quick info on those curious. I just got back from a solid week shooting in the field with just two GMP 160Wh (Red Version) batteries.

On the Red Scarlet X shooting at pretty much 4k the entire time I'm getting around 3 hours of operation. They also take around 3 hours to charge. Likely a bit over that. The "Red" version of these batteries do indeed communicate the capacity percentage back to the camera as long as you have an Switronix or compatible V-Mount plate connected to your camera.

If you look closely you can see the capacity percentage readout here:

    Incredibly useful.

Only downside so far on these batteries is that damn rubber D-Tap cover pops off too easily. That's more my fault I guess than the battery.

I have been unable to determine a bit of info I thought some folks here might know... from everything I have seen, some of the "substitute" batteries for the Anton Bauers will NOT charge in an AB charger (this seems to be the case with several Switronix batteries). Is this true of ALL the "knock-offs" or will some of them charge in AB chargers? I was looking at Swit or GMP but I was wondering if I'd have to buy their charger, too.

I ask because I have an AB charger but only one AB battery and I am wondering if it is even with it to stay with the AB mount or sell it and rethink the whole power strategy.

    Thanks.

On the V-Mount front, I bought the GMP Dual charger and had a Quad IDX charger at the same time. It charged them without an issue. I don't know why some chargers wouldn't work other than a physical size limitation.
