Hello everyone, after a highly successful run of classes in 2011, the last few really focused on EPIC and Scarlet shooting, and viewing 4k via RedCineX Pro in our 4k theater at RED studios Hollywood, we are getting lots more requests for information and upcoming dates for our 2012 Classes.

We've decided to add another class in late February in Hollywood, again focused on hands on camera training and a heathy mix of Production techniques, optimizing the images you create, and moving them into Post Production. This time with a new twist (wouldn't be RED if we didn't experiment and evolve)

After the Main 3 Day class, in addition to the advanced post class for those with that focus, we are also going to run a "put into practice what you learned" workshop. 2 extra days of shooting a real project, moving it into prep for editorial, doing the edit and screening it on the big movie screen. For those that work in parts of the business that don't get a chance to really exercise their creative skills just for the pure fun and "learning on the job" We think this will be a really interesting addition to REDucation.

For those setting their schedules here are the dates and locations:

REDucation Hollywood - February 27th - March 2nd - location RED Studios Hollywood
REDucation NYC - May 21-25th - location TBD
REDucation UK - Sept 3rd-5th - location Pinewood Studios London
REDucation Hollywood - December 3rd - December 7th - location RED Studios Hollywood

Is there a way a Post course could be offered that is scaled to the small to medium size user that does not have the resources of Light Iron - rather uses a non-Rocket Mac with Premiere and hardware you can buy off the Apple Store?

    Josh,

Exactly what we are trying out with the two day extension course focused on application of learning from REDucation. This time we are trying it with both shoot and edit (the editorial will be done on HP workstations with Red Rockets and Premiere) and if the model succeeds as we believe it will we will have a focused user post class later in the year.

We had a great setup today. After hearing the course lineup for the week this is going to be a killer REDucation. I'm really excited for the Shoot, Post, Present 2-day class. Of course it's hard to compete with Michael Cioni's Post 2-day class but get this.. Red is brining in actors, make-up artists, directors with multiple shooting projects along with experts from Adobe to walk everyone through the post process with Adobe products. And this is only a 2-day class! There should be a week dedicated just for this class. For everyone that signed up for any of the classes. Be sure to ask lots of questions, the direction the class takes is really driven by what you want to hear. If you are a little intimidated, don't be... Everyone is here to help you no matter what level of productions you work on.

    Brian,

Is the New York course going to be using the same set up (i.e. HP workstations + Rocket)? Is it possible to also have a workflow for the "very little guy" without a Rocket? This would give us a chance to see what Premier's Mercury Playback Engine can do with a NVIDIA Quadro-type graphics card... perhaps being able to mess around with debayer quality and playback resolution to see what a viable non-Rocket workflow is (I know it's not ideal, but may be needed in certain situations where one doesn't have access to a Rocket). Any chance of something like this in addition to the regular HP w/ Rocket set up?

Really excited! Traveling for 16 hours all the way from Pakistan to attend the NYC class! See you all there!

    Josh-
Hopefully some of the REDucation alumni will agree, but in the post class we spend ample time discussing techniques and tools for every budget. In fact, it is extremely rare that I discuss workflows that can only be used on big budgets! The truth is, the RED workflows that I employ are used on the smallest and largest movies all the same. The tricks and techniques that I teach know no difference between a webisode and a 3D feature. Honestly REDucation is not designed for a specific "class" of creatives. Our curriculum is truly based on the belief that democratization and optimal efficiency can be achieved by every user regardless of their budget or location. Scaleable workflows along with a full understanding of color science and RED manipulation costs you nothing in practice, which is why we are able to satisfy the needs of every RED user.

Hopefully some other alum will be able to confirm our techniques effectively transcend the boundaries of budgets. For the do-it-yourself-er, REDucation 3D and the post course will have a long-lasting, positive affect on your work.

Confirmed. I attended December's Reducation+Post course and was very pleased by how Ted and Michael taught principles rather than dogma. I was also impressed by the span of experience among those in attendance. It made for great discussion both in and out of class. Everyone I spoke with came away with new ideas that were going to make real-world impact on their operations, whatever the size.
I very much recommend Reducation to big-leaguers and homebrewers alike.
