Take a typical commercial project (a :30 car ad for example) from beginning to end with no more than a Mac tower, $3K monitor, off the shelf drive array, REDcine-X and Premiere.
    WE DO EXACTLY THIS.

First challenge: start with specifying a total post production system that costs less than $20K - hardware/software
    WE DO EXACTLY THIS.

How do I effectively color correct my R3D's within REDcine-X - avoiding stand alone grading $olutions.
WE DO AS MUCH AS RCX CAN DO, AS IT IS CURRENTLY DESIGNED AS A 1-LIGHT GRADING PROGRAM ONLY.

HDRx in REDcine-X (I have been told I have to use a 3rd party program to fully utilize this feature in post)
    WE COVER THIS.

Epic audio - low cost 2nd sound solutions and how to best sync in post.
WE COVER THIS, BUT I HAVE SOME ADDITIONS I CAN THINK OF.

Economical data management workflow from acquisition to archive - RED files are big . . . real big.
I COVER THIS A LOT. BIG TIME WITH LOTS OF SOLUTIONS FOR ALL.

RED integration with Premiere - tips and tricks.
WE DO NOT COVER THIS, AS WE DO NOT TEACH NLE SUPPORT (THERE ARE TOO MANY VARIABLES ONCE YOU LEAVE RED TOOLS) BUT WE DO TEACH HOW TO GET TO THESE TOOLS. FOR MORE PREMIERE TRAINING, WE'D NEED ADOBECATION.

Output and best compression methods for Vimeo etc.
GOOD IDEA. WE DON'T CURRENTLY COVER THIS, BUT I KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT AND COULD INCLUDE THIS. I LIKE IT.

. . . and just a bunch of stuff looking at the world from a (young) Robert Rodriguez using RED point of view.
    BELIEVE ME...WE DO THIS.

    Oh and . . . all the buttons in REDcine-X . . . ALL OF THEM!!! ; - )
IF FEEDBACK WANTS MORE RCX, THEN WE'LL DO IT.

    Marcos & Josh,

I use Lynda.com all the time and I love it. And working for a government organization I sure understand the pain of getting approval for time and money to attend a class like this. But, I have to chip in with this... The content is great, getting your hands on the equipment is really great, having a full grip/electrical department at the studio available makes things so easy. And when you sit in a theater on-site and see your material projected in 4K it's truly energizing. But in the end, it's the people you meet during the class. Everyone from Red and your fellow students. I tend to think of myself as a fairly smart guy. But, during Reducation I meet some very smart people with a lot of different ideas and experience. Sometimes I truly feel like I don't know anything. But everyone is there to answer questions and let you try stuff. You just can't get that from an online course.

I'm a firm believer you have to take the class in person to fully understand what Red is all about.

I just payed. Reducation and Red Post.
    I am going...

I sincerely hope they teach as much as possible for indie productions
My Scarlet-X is a powerful tool and I want to get the most out of it
I am an independent artist and I barely can afford to go
but I am committed and want to be as proficient as I can

Thank you tedRED for scheduling the February date
    and making this possible
I am so very grateful and look forward to learning from Michael Cioni

First time posting, loooooong time lurker here. I'm excited to have just registered for Reducation!

Now I'm trying to figure out if I rather take Red Post, or Shoot Post Present. For those who have done either of the extension classes, do you have any input?

EDIT: Just found the Sticky above this post. I'll make sure to go through that.

I am again putting my time / money where my mouth is - signing up for the full week of RE. Question for Ted / Michael:

You offer 2 different extension classes. Given what I requested above, which is more in scale with a "home brew" guy like myself? I am trying to keep the amount of programs and hardware to an absolute minimum so do not want to get into Storm, Scratch, Lilypad, DaVinci or others if at all possible. My perfect world would be to learn how to produce a professional :30 commercial spot with in-camera audio, HDRx using Epic, Cine-X and Premiere only.

John is absolutely right. John brought a taser to Reducation in September where I got to shot it at 300fps. You can't do that with a Lynda subscription.

BTW John, it was good to see you at the open house in December.

Adam... That open house was crazy! So many people I think there were over 300. And I was working my butt off. Of course, I was also loving every minute of it. It's like frosting on the cake for everyone at Reducation that week. I just don't know how Red can pull that off. All the vendors, the 4k theater, the bar and imagine driving a one of those Food Trucks right onto Stage 6.

    Michael,

I would second the audio section. I know there was a small element to this when you and Ted did the Mythbusters Part 2 when you where recording and then popped out the CF card and then transferred and synced. I often think audio is overlooked when dealing with R3D files and I think of some additions to this also that would start to complete that workflow for productions (and in the case of what Josh is saying, the lower-budget guys).

Output and Compression - again have to agree. I don't think I've heard this talked about at REDucation on the times Ive been in the room. Even skipping the NLE section and basing from the "okay, you've finished your project in FCP, PP, MC, you've finished your DI and sound, here's how to get the best output for your project." Some examples of compressions for web delivery, DVD, TV, film, DCP, etc would be great.

Hope to see you over for the REDucation UK course this year...

    :))

My experiences with REDucation are that it doesnt focus on any given "level" of production.

Common practice is usually to get a feel for the experience level room and then discuss using techniques appropriate to the audience.

Having said that, It can be quite surprising how much in common a "hollywood" and "non-hollywood" approach actually have.

Anyone who didnt get the specifics they were after in the little "classroom" talks can spend further time discussing with TED, Michael, or any of the TAs at lunch or during the hands on exercises.

There will I imagine usually be at least one of the TAs who will know something about what you ned to know.....

TED, Work schedule allowing, Im at your service for Pinewood round 2.

Or the USA ones if you feel it totally necessary for me to fly over. ;)
