I know as of 12-20 zeiss ze's were not characterized for the Epic. Since I only have a prime set of ze glass for my soon to ship scarlet, I wanted to check to see if anyone knows if they are compatible in shipping scarlets.

Yes, I believe ZE's are fully mechanical and full manual so there isn't an electronic aperture control like most other EF lenses. The only thing is you're obviously not going to get auto focus or any info from the lens on your screen or in the metadata.

For some reason I thought the ZEs had electronic aperture, and that was the main reason I was questioning whether to buy them or not. Ryan, can you confirm that they have manual aperture? I'd really love that.

Zeiss Ze are manual focus, but have electronic aperture, so if the scarlet has not been characterized yet for zeiss ze's, you wont have aperture control. Only ZF zeiss lenses are manual aperture.

Sorry you are right. I got confused because the cp2s are all manual. But from what I read on here they are compatable.

The ZE have an electronic aperture that's controlled by the camera body. I believe some if not all of them still need to be characterized in order to work on Scarlet... notably the 85 has had problems (read this somewhere on Reduser). Would love to hear from someone who has an Epic/Scarlet and ZE lenses who can verify.

Why not go with the ZF with a Canon Adapter? That would take care of the problem?
