If you do happen to go ZF instead of ZE for your Canon mount get the Leitax Adapters. Nothing else comes close! You actually screw them into the base mount... no more slop when you rack focus back and forth.

I am very interested in what the results are with this because I was going to be getting these lenses...

    Tokina 11-16 F2.8
    Zeiss 28mm F/2.0 Distagon T* ZE
    Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Planar T* ZE
    Zeiss 85mm ZE f1.4 Planar T
    Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 100mm
    Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8

If any of those won't work with the Scarlet, I'll be super bummed. I love how unbelievably clean those lenses are. Even on the 5D. Look at the clarity!

Greetings. This is my first post on Reduser. I received my AL mount Scarlet-X last week (super excited about the camera) and have tested my Zeiss ZE lenses:

    Zeiss 28mm f/2.0
    Zeiss 50mm f/1.4
    Zeiss 85mm f/1.4

All 3 lenses work great and the images look stunning. Aperture adjustments in-camera all work fine. I did see another post with an issue and a follow up stating that Zeiss ZF/ZE lenses had not been "programed into the camera firmware right now" - but mine are working fine so far. YMMV.

I'm still waiting for power for my camera (Side Handle and a V-Mount system) to arrive before I can get outside and do more shooting. I'll be sure to follow up.

That is great news indeed, Logan. Can you confirm that the aperture is set through the camera's touch-screen or side handle.

    Thanks

    Antonio,

Yes. The aperture is set through the camera's touch-screen. I LOVE how intuitive setting the f/stop is when using the touch LCD - really great. I haven't received my side handle yet - I'm looking forward to receiving that soon.

    Cheers,
    Logan

Logan, I'm looking at a few ZEs and was wondering if you had the 35mm or not. I'm debating on getting the 35, 50, 85 or the 28, 50, 85...or just going for all four. Just wondering if you missed having that 35mm length at all. Also, I've only shot with the ZF (nikon mount with manual aperture), do you miss not having manual aperture, or is the electronic decent to use? Thanks in advance.

    Ben,

I don't have the 35mm but the new f/1.4 version sure looks hot. ZE vs. ZF is going to be personal preference. There is certainly a really good argument to go with the ZF.2s for the manual aperture ring. BTW - I would not call myself a true lens expert. I would see if you could rent a set and get additional opinions. Also, check out the Zeiss ZF.2 sets and cine-mod options at Duclos Lenses. As for 28 vs. 35 the FOV between those two is pretty close - and the 35mm is a faster lens - tough call. Regardless, I'm happy with the ZE lenses for now and plan to add the 35mm f/1.4 and the 100mm Makro-Planar at some point.

    Cheers,
    Logan

I have ZE 21mm and 50mm f/2.0 Macro and both work great on Scarlet. I can also confirm that my 85mm works also. I've been changing the aperture using the LCD but I'm thinking about programing the User keys on the SSD module to control the aperture if I can... At least until I get the side handle.

If the aperture is not manual, how would you do an aperture pull? Is there provision to rack the aperture within the touch?

No Im trying to be facetious - but if I were one of you guys considering ZE's I'd want to be sure I can rack the aperture somehow during shot.

Zeiss Distagon 35mm ZE doesn't work :( The shutter keeps opening and closing really fast!
