  1. #1 timelapse mode
I see build 12 has a timelapse function with built-in intervalometer with 1 to 1024 seconds between shots. Has anyone explored this feature? This is a silly question, but I'm just wondering how it works: say you set up a 10 second delay, in this mode. Now when you start recording does it take the first shot immediately, or wait 10 seconds before taking the first one?

If the first second is important than you should shoot high speed not interval right? But it would be nice to know just for fun. LOL. I like useless facts too.

In a worsed case you just need to press the record button 10 seconds early and you are done.

Hehe, seriously, we should test this. I have to much on the list to test, step by step - and we have two regular shootings next two weeks, but I'll try to figure it out.

    Timelapse is indeed very interesting.

i tried it yesterday .. i really didn't pay attention if it recorded the 1st frame when i pressed record or waited ? anyway i did 1 sec intervals ...it did work ..

also tried a ramp ..and it worked ...

don't know if anybody else has mentioned it ... but on camera playback of any clip you go thru it manually frame by frame, forward or backward ..

I had something different in mind. Say you wanted a R3D file with just a single frame (eg. using it as a stills camera) and you wanted that frame not to have motion shake from physically pressing the record button. Then you'd want a short delay first, and then take the frame. Not that it would kill me to have two frames instead of one, I guess.

Then I might instead use Varispeed mode with 1 fps as the frame rate. Then start / stop the camera from a GPI trigger..

For some timelapse recordings, 1s interval can be too long.
Could you please add smaller intervals like 1/2 second and 1/4 second ?

Oh wait, or is this already covered by the "varispeed" feature ?

    Thanks,
    Nils.

this may be a Stuart question but what I would like to do is setup a time-lapse on one Red and have it also trigger a second Red at precisely the same moment. Is this possible to do right now between two Reds and a trigger cable?
    Thanks!

Yes that should work - just trigger both camera's GPI inputs from a common cable.

Yes, turn Varispeed on and select 2 fps or 4 fps record frame rates. Then trigger the record start / stop manually or by a GPI input.

Another option is to turn on TimeLapse and select One-Shot record then trigger each frame capture by the GPI input.
