    Hi guys,

Im looking for a cheap LTO-5 solution for making back ups, will be used most of all at my office but from time to time on set, DIT solution...

I wanted to know what you think about this LTO-5 solution, its a cheap one from HP for around 1500.- USD is it any good? http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-EH957A-St...0#ht_589wt_913

Or do you know a better one for a couple of hundred more? I cant be expending more than 2'000.- right now...

or what about LTO-4 are they good? what is the biggest difference to LTO-5?

Thanks a lot for your help.
    cheers
    Sebastian

HP SAS LTO-5 is wonderful. I own several.

If you don't know which software your going to use I recommend checking with your Post House or Production company.

Thats the thing, I have my own company and Im trying to start using LTO-5 for my backups. But cant expend too much max around 2,5K-3K for everything. Do I need a special software? Doesnt the one that comes with the HP LTO work? Or isnt it good enough?
I've seen that some HP only work with Windows vista, any way of making it work with mac? here this one HP StorageWorks LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 SAS External Tape Drive -
Found it for allmost 3K but it says only windows vista. Any idea?

Sorry for the many questions but im new to LTO and want to start using them as backup for my projects and clients projects.
    Thanks for any tip!

HP LTO-5 -- it's the one to get. Make sure you buy the external model if you need external, I didn't look closely at the eBay ad, but pricing seems to suggest it's an internal drive. Finding a low-profile SAS enclosure to put a bare (internal) drive into is usually a pain in the...

For use with Mac, all the HP drives work great and once again are the best option. You need to combine them with a supported controller and software. Out of the box they don't work with Mac with what HP provides. Most of us around here with these units connected to mac are using BRU software with ATTO controllers. It's a tried and proven combination.
