No it doesn't quite balance out yet, still waiting on V-lock batteries which should do the trick once mounted on rear for counter balance. I also have another monitor which I can attach when on shoulder. It's tricky getting the perfect rig. To mount onto tripod I just remove shoulder brace which is mounted on manfrotto quick release plate. Follow focus is the hardest part, works fine on 24-70mm lens (Which I really hate) but doesn't reach on the 50mm lens (Which I really like). I'll get it perfect eventually. :)
Thanks man. I agree with what your saying, I also like the camera closer to eye level. I'm 6 foot tall, and it is a small issue. My Preference would be to have the rods underneath the camera, it's a much better option, at the moment I'm working with what I already have from DSLR world. ;)
Hey Joel
Nice compact rig, simple effective with no crap hanging off it...I like it apart from one thing.......so a suggestion.
As a previous owner of Redrock's MB system THROW those blasted foam donuts in the bin, your pics illustrate perfectly how this system doesn't work. They will give you nothing but grief. Then replace with a rubberised ring similar to Shoot 35's one. In fact now I think about the shoot 35 system may well fit the Redrock MB , ( I now own Shoot 35 MB system) ..... or as Bob suggested replace with "Nuns Nickers".
Life is to short for foam donuts!!! My 2 cents
Yeah it is the 24-70mm Canon lens, a good all rounder lens for DSLR work but after testing it on the Scarlet I really hate it. You lose all the picture quality the Scarlet has to offer, unfortunately when you play with big toys, you need big accessories too. For now 50mm Canon Primes work a treat. But soon I'll have to opt for Zeis. As for Matt box, I don't find it too much of an issue using the zoom, it was loose on the photo as I just mounted the matebox, so far it's worked well..
Could You be more specific as to why the 24-70 causes you to loose "all the picture quality the Scarlet has to offer"?
I have the same lens and I love it. The only downside is the telescoping front-end, but there are many ways to work around it. But as far as image quality goes - this is one of the best zooms in this price range and focal range out there...
Peter
Same here, that's not such a bad lens IMHO.
Peter, Zooms are great to work with but they just don't deliver the quality in that price range. Rather than explaining I'll do a few comparison tests and upload frame grabs next few days. This might not be the right section for lens tests but if anyone else can do Scarlet lens comparisons tests, would love to see them.
Here is the picture SHAPE company just released on their Pinterest about their new Product for Red Epic & Scarlet. It will be released for the NAB
