Putting my cam through it's paces, learning the thing (first red owner) shooting some tests and that stuff.
Also going through menus and things like that, decided to run a blackshade.

Tried multiple times, mounted lens w/ cap on, lens off/body cap on, body cap on plus in a dark bathroom... . 5K, 4K , format SSD, cycle power, different shutter speeds, etc etc

Every time after it completes the recording of the noise to analyze it will stop saying calibration error. The camera was warmed up.

Now I'm not having a need to perform one yet - but it is confusing me that I cannot complete it.

Anyone else try on theirs successfully? This user error or a bug? Was going to file a ticket but wanted to check in case i was flubbing something up

are you on the latest firmware? you can try reflashing your current or new firmware and try again.

What are you powering the camera with? Is it possible the power was fluctuating when you attempted the black shade?

Can't you at least reset to "default" calibration for generic shooting?

Has there even _been_ a firmware update since Scarlets started going out the door? Except for some of the early PL-mounts, most Scarlets have only been out a few weeks-ish.

Have read the only way to clear an error is to reload the current firmware tho.

Excellent thread on Black Calibration (BC) here in Epic Thread:

Don't let 1st few posts throw you, gets into some interesting BC stuff further in.

A/C power. I guess it could be possible it would fluctuate but i doubt it. Camera operated normally when shooting.

And yes I can keep the default setting, I don't need to calibrate now , but I wanted to know that if i see some kind of black gradient issue in the future that I can calibrate and know the process will work.

Might as well learn to force upgrade my camera and reload it's firmware. maybe it will clear the issue. I'm sure this is stuff I'll be glad I glad I went through when testing

I calibrate just before every shoot, you would be surprised how smooth the blacks come out when you calibrate before use... Oh wait you can't calibrate... I'm sorry man, I hope you get it soon.

Well who knows why but I did a force upgrade to the same firmware and tried again successfully.

And good god, the blacks look amazing now. I was getting all kinds of colored noise the other night when I was testing.

I read a post by Phil Holland about how he wakes up every day and calibrates his SCARLET, and the blacks in his videos looked amazing, so I started doing it, and it literally is like night and day. I will never shoot again without first calibrating.

Absolutely, me either after seeing the difference on my camera alone. No excuse to not do it at the beginning of a job whatsoever.
