  1. #1 BRAKE trailer on the IMDB
Please check out the trailer for BRAKE on the IMDB Homepage. It's an action movie starring Stephen Dorff that takes place inside the trunk of a car. I shot it on the RED One MX rated at 2000ASA!. The trailer premieres today, Friday January 20, in advance of a March 23rd Theatrical Release. Lots of traffic will keep it alive, and if you are on Twitter, please tweet the Facebook and IMDB links. Your help in spreading the good word is greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy my work, and look forward to your feedback.

Great looking stuff James. Must have been a really interesting and fun shoot. I'd love to see some behind the scenes of the of the camera setups and the set.

Looks like a pretty good movie too. Can't wait to see it.

Hi James, I'm glad to see the film got distribution and will be hitting theatres soon. I was part of the cast and crew screening in Burbank back in May as part of the Reducation gang that got specially invited to the screening. We chatted at the Red open house the next day. Anyways, great job again on this show. I'm looking forward to seeing it again when it hits Canada.

Thank you all for your kind words; much appreciated. I will be doing a Behind-The-Scenes writeup for the Digital Cinema Society eNewsletter, plus American Cinematographer, along with Creative Cow magazine are talking to us about doing articles. I think it will make a pretty interesting story with all the unique challenges and solutions. The movie was shot almost entirely with LED lights, and the red countdown clock served as my Keylight.

    Thanks again!

  9. #9 BRAKE: Buried 2?
I have to admit that in just seeing the trailer you would suspect "BRAKE" was a rip-off of "Buried"; I think Distributors try to sell their movies by drawing on similarities to what audiences know, in this case "Buried". Although there are some similarities with the lead character being held captive in a confined space, the people that have seen "BRAKE" can tell you there is a lot more to this little movie. I don't want to spoil it by giving away too much, and I hope nobody else on the forums does, but suffice to say that there are a few twists you might not be expecting.

It's not my place to defend the movie, but I will tell you that Stephen Dorff delivers a solid performance, and I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on the cinematography; (there was a preview shown at RED Studios, and last fall’s REDucation class was invited to a special screening). I have to give a lot of credit to the tools, the RED One with an MX sensor, which allowed me to capture strong visuals in a very low light environment at 2000ASA.

I'm proud of my work and pray that lots of folks get the chance to see it properly projected on a big screen during it's theatrical release starting March 23rd in New York and Los Angeles. However, in what you might call an experimental distribution pattern, it is actually already available starting this weekend as a VOD download on iTunes, Amazon, and the like. The support of the REDuser community could go a long way toward making this microscopically budgeted movie attain wider distribution; so if you've seen the movie, and like what you saw, please share your feedback here, on IMDB, Facebook, and let people know it’s more than “Buried 2”.

    With Sincere Thanks,

Don't forget before Buried, there was Phone Booth, too.

I LOVE Stephen Dorff and have been a fan of his since "The Power of One." Look forward to seeing him in this.
