Sounds like a 3rd party module is coming to market soon :) Now, who is making it?

    Yeah, that's a forklift tattoo. I wasn't always a cinematographer :)

It get the feeling Red is making it using some 3rd party tech.

Quite frankly a PIX 240 with a modified casing and interface for the modular DSMC form factor would make my day.

No offense to RED but the audio quality of the Sound Devices gear is a step above anything I've ever been able to record on camera. The idea of having hero sync audio and hardware encoded ProRes in hand for immediate editorial is very attractive.

Hopefully RED and Sound Devices are already well on their way to delivering such a thing and Jarred is just honoring whatever NDAs would be typical of that kind of collaboration.

    Cheers - #19

I love you Jarred! Seriously dude, I love you. You should be called the "fire listener chief". I am speechless...
This is even bigger news than the attached Red magged HP computer.

But please make sure they remember the specs...
    1.Must be 12bit log 4444 4k, 2k, 1080, not 10bit 422
    2. must have R3D file naming structure in case we need to fall back to the recorded raw.
    3. must not use cf cards (they suck)
    4. Must only be released after or alongside the Dragon Sensor so it can be over-sampled from 6k down to 4k with all the 15 stop lushness.
    5. many will argue that it should have rec 709/redgamma 3 this could be an option, but lets not loose sight of the fact that The epic is a high end digital cinema camera.

great news!! I think it should have choices, 10bit 422 on CF cards for example would be ideal for me :)

It would be even more perfect if there was know module at all.. And we got R3ds and pro res on the same card at the same time.
    I'm dreaming now. :).
Or. We could choose 4k prores 4444 log or R3D...
Oooooor. This isn't a silly idea... Red start making small Prores 4k log C or red log film 4444 cameras only.
That shoot all the same frame rates as they do now... That would most certainly be a clear winner for sales.
I just dont want my camera to grow in size.

Right. ProRes is 3rd party tech. Do folks anticipate something else for some reason?

Yes. Same Card!!! Keep the epic small, give me another codec option not another module. Give me the option of loading a Pro Res or DnxHD build or create an R3DLT platform agnostic codec for NLEs that dumps the metadata and burns in the look or not. The Data rate and file size of R3D and ProRes4444 are pretty close, I wonder if this is possible?
    or
when Dragon comes out would it be possible to shoot 4k R3D raw and 2k Prores or R3DLT lil brother simultaneously. Would this add up to the same through put needed for 1 6k file....?

Regardless of what you guys do next, I really love this camera. just shot a Promo for Project runway all at 90FPS and 240fps. If I had shot this on film the film and processing costs would of been more than the entire budget of the promo.

    I love the future.
