PIX 240 with module interface bracket. Imagine something kind of like an AB gold mount plate.

In my perfect world this interface bracket would carry power and SDI signal from camera to PIX, TC/genlock bi-directional, plus 2 channels of audio from the PIX back to the brain (via wires to the mini plugs if there is no other way) so the hero audio would be written into the R3Ds for redundancy. Obviously a full raster frame over SDI (with LB for 2:1 and 'scope) would be desired, something I assume will come shortly in a FW rev anyway. More metadata the better, but at least enough to make conforming easy.

I know its dangerous to give people too good of a 1080 file right out of camera, but with the plethora of piggyback recording devices on the market these days I don't think that genie can be put back in the bottle anyway. By partnering with Sound Devices, odds are very good that both audio quality and build quality will be top notch. Seems like a great pairing with the Epic/Scarlet rigs to me...

Oh, and for over cranked stuff, just have an option to record during playback with edge code.

    Cheers - #19

    Hey Blair,
I agree with you. The Pix240 is here now. How much slow motion work are we really talking about? Seems like for many people this is a great solution. That Firmware issue of cropping the frame is really holding us up.
    Cheers,
    Sam

I think many of us want this was instant editable footage as an offline with matching timecode. The you only need to go back to the raw files for the shots you are using. Many people still transcode to prores before editing anyway. This would save a lot of time. PIX240 is nice, but in a module, it would be nicer.

Does it still crop when shooting 4kHD?

I would really like this option to have a dock-able recorder to keep cables (and issues related to cabling) to a minimum. Bring it on and kill the Alexa's only advantage DTE (Direct to Edit)!

Pix 240 is a nice thing.. but it needs batteries, brackets etc etc .... the EPIC's simple easy form is well and truly lost.
Plus there the Pix 240 does not make 4k PRO RES... or make full Debayer 4444 PRO RES. Not much difference to a cheap little Ninja recorder.
What I'm asking for is small, form fitting, self powered and direct simple.

But at the moment, there is not a single thing wrong with the Pix or the ki-pro... both are good units.
But I'm divorcing myself from adding extra stuff to my cameras.. im trying to keep them as are.... I'd love it if PRO RES printed directly onto the SSD car with the R3D's and screw the module... I'd pay even more for that option.

I'd buy one, but it's not going to take care of off-speed shots.
Who can say they have the time to play back all takes of overcranked shots on set, to injest all those takes into the PIX240, or Red's module, if it ever happens...
I can only imagine we'd still be relying on a DIT and a Rocket setup to transcode those slo-mo files.
So the workflow options would match an Alexa only on some days of the week.

Im just curiours why (if) the RED MODULE is made, why through direct connectivity it could not make slo-mo file on the fly? Far less processing compared to a RAW File. ?

What would I know, the thing doesn't even exist yet.

Also love the idea of this but interesting that you'd pay for such a module considering your $4500 Red Rocket card just died. Doesn't that worry you... certainly concerns me that any such module could also go the same way?
