So about 18 months ago, Kino Flo announced that they were going to introduce CFLs that will match the color characteristics of their regular True Match lamps. http://www.fdtimes.com/news/general/...lo-practicals/

They were targeted for replacement of the standard incandescents in practicals. I got an email from them about a year ago

"Thank you for the email. The 27W CFL's will be availble for sale in June. Daylight and Tugnsten, but only for the 230vac market; the products for the 120vac market will be available in September."

Its been 6 months from the projected US roll out. Has anybody seen these for sale in either the US or elsewhere? If so, where/how much?

    Thanks

So I noticed that Kino now lists the CFLs on its web site and 2012 catalog. However, a search for the part numbers comes up empty for any retailers. Anyone havea line on who is carrying these?

Kino Flo's new 26W color-correct CFL is equivalent to a 100W incandescent bulb. It was specially designed for the professional film, photography and video industry. Its unique formula rated at CRI 95 matches the spectral distribution curves of HD cameras. Available in KF32 and KF55, 120VAC and 230VAC.

I actually just got in touch with them... currently they're in manufacturing and are targeting release sometime next month if all goes well.
If they don't cost a million bucks I'm buying enough to replace all the major bulbs in my apartment.

Don't laugh, but the very best CFL we've ever used doesn't come from a film-related company at all. These things are positively amazing. Everyone who has seen them (including a large process house here in Kansas City) went gaga over them:

    Put them in this fixture:

    With this reflector:

And you have one heckofa terrific daylight source. We have four of these things, and I have to tell you, once people see them, they go to them every time, bypassing our Kinos, our HMIs, and everything else.

Stephen, Cool Lights sells that same lamp as Farmtek, but at $38 less: http://www.coollights.biz/cl20056-co...bulb-p-83.html

I have a pair of those lamps, but I use them in my Chimera mogul fixture along with a Pancake or regular Chinese lantern (or softbox). I already own a ton of Chimera stuff.

But I think you are missing the point of the Kino CFLs. These are not designed to be the key or fill lamps whatsoever. They are designed to replace the bulbs in practicals so that they match the light coming from Kino Divas, 4x4s etc. They compliment Kino lighting.

BTW, I also contacted Kino. THe sales rep told me that they were shooting for late Fall. Sounds like there is no clear answer yet. Its aggravating because Kino announced these CFLs two years ago. I hope the delay allowed them to get it spot on.

It is POSSIBLE that the Farmtek and the Cool Lights are exactly the same, but I have owned both, and they don't look the same to our eyes. Maybe I just keep getting stellar Farmteks and inferior Cool Lights, but I did not like the 200W Cool Lights CFLs. Their 3200K 200W CFL just doesn't look right at all. I love their CFL fixtures, though, and recommend them highly.

As to the Kinos being used in practicals, well, I wouldn't want those, either. I prefer my practicals to be warmer than my keys/backs/etc. For this purpose, we have a slew of low-wattage (from 2.5W up to 40W) incandescent lights. Sometimes, we'll even dim them down to make them warmer. To me, there's just something really nice that happens when I'm mixing light colors.
