This is my own initiative and is not endorsed by REDSo, People want a camera module that records 1080P DNX HD or prores. It think this might be a better solution. Got me to thinking - would some of this be accomplished by using R3D Data Manager to back up on set, coupled with a Matrox box to quickly encode footage to h.264 (I know, only does this flavor)? This doesn't solve the problem of doing a one-light in RCX and outputting that quickly, if that's what you were thinking. For that we still need a less costly Rocket. The Matrox idea does appeal to me for creating quick h.264 for dailies. Then they could be streamed to iPads using Micheal Cioni's Live Play.

EDIT: Upon further investigation, I see that you can hook a Matrox box up to your camera through SDI, capture while you are shooting and then convert to h.264 quickly for near instant dailies. Hmmm.

The idea.

Shoot REDGAMMA 3 REDLOG FILM for ALEXA style
Shoot REDGAMMA 3 REDCOLOR 3 for TV style

Back up the data (which you have to do anyway)

Rip out the shots with no one light (like an ALEXA workflow)
Grade later...

So simple...

It's not about the module. It's about the fast post solution.

Nope.

This is a better, more afforable concept with newer tech and a more integrated approach. It's the next level of rocket card and new product that is not based on a four year old card. comes in it's own enclosure...

Takes advantage of thunderbolt, etc. and it's a new RED based solution not third party.

Point is creating somehitng like this over an onboard camera module which will quickly become obsolete.

We got this all ready.
A flight case with Maxdigital red rocket raid.
With a data card and 4tb disc storage.

The above has PC express stick.. Then we got a PC express to thunder bolt...

Viola 4k playback on set... Quick reformating on set.... still you need a DIT to do the work etc.

What I would like is. A process or h.264 module.
It would be nice if the H.264 file was laid down to the same card /same folders as the r3D files. So for example shoot highest nitrate like 1:3 and no proxies.
go down to 1:4 and get small 1280x720 H.264 files on the side...

Then offline editing on set, or on small laptops or slow ass postproduciton machines is no longer a problem..

if the above was poressproxy then even better.

We are testing the teradek at the moment and all I can say is that network transfer speed is not up to par with what directors and people on set would like to deal with so if there is going to be antennas involved then it has t one rather small file sizes if sent over Wifi or, it has to be a cost radio link or such...

It would be nice if red put together a Wifi transmitter with selectable frame side and sell it together with a Wifi base station/reciever with BNC SDI HD out... we are in desperate need to get some sort of signal from the camera and cable will not do since there is to long distance and to many slipprings in our rig.

That is true. You need a DIT weather you shoot ALEXA or RED, so why is everyone saying they need prores onboard when the data has to hit the DIT station first?

If people think they are loosing jobs to ALEXA because of workflow, there is a minor differnece between RAW an baked in, minor.

It's time to update the Rocket the way the M was updated to MX
