It's called Steve because our superstar actor passed away back in March. We were working on a movie called "Steve's Louisville" which we were gonna shoot with the Scarlet. He was a BAD ASS and a total natural.

We had a movie written completely based around who he was as a human being, his manorisms...everything. So losing him really killed the project after like three years of writing. He was hilarious. Didn't have to really direct him at all.



He was bound for stardom, but had heart issues. So the camera is named after our ol pal Steve. Here's a little sample of something we shot with Steve one afternoon with the 7D. Sorry that the audio is so crappy, but it's still super cute. You can see what a fun guy Steve was.

The shot at 2:50 was that 2k 60fps? if so, it looks great! I have this lens and I hate it. Came with my t2i bundle. But I'm loving these results!

I hate the lens too! I wasn't going out expecting to have my mind blown when I brought the stuff in to edit. My mind was blown. That crappy little lens! Whoodathunkit? And that shot at 2:50 was 3K 48fps.

Oh man, I'm so glad that 48fps can look that magical! I've read a couple threads on people talking about taking older lens's or not so sharp lens's and putting them on the Epic and getting great results....looks like I might be keeping the 18 - 135! thanks for this

Like I said, rack focusing on that lens is just completely unacceptable. But for stuff like what I just ran out and shot, hell... looked wildly better than I ever expected. Lordy lordy.

Great stuff Brennan. Just some small questions if I may pls.

You used the camera in stills mode for the stills or pulled the stills directly from red cine?
Is that small jitter from the youtube compression, head pan or from camera itself? Guess its one of the first two and its not a problem.

Impressive shots - Blown away byscarlet every time I see something. Keep it coming.

Referring to the test shots with the scarlet by the way - Condolences for steve btw. Sure the scarlet will live up to his name.

So I'm guessing the jitter you're seeing is probably just the YouTube playback on your computer. As far as I could tell, the video plays back jitter free on my computer. Although I do have a 24 core computer I'm playing it back on.

**And as far as the stills go, I just exported a png sequence from Vegas Pro in 4K and could save any one I wanted as a full res jpg or whatever. Exporting in full resolution is a thing of beauty, but it's also a thing of TIME. Exporting that in its "preview" quality as Vegas calls it took 7 hours for those 6 minutes. If I did it in "Best" quality it would take probably 12 hours and not look thaaat much better. But I highly recommend working with final png files. Export an h.264 from After Effects of the sequence and you're good to go. Another beautiful thing about working with an image sequence is that if your program locks up right in the middle of a render, you can just start at the frame it left off at. That's an immediate advantage because I know of many times when my computer has crashed during a render and destroyed the whole file.
