Hi all, where do we exactly stand regarding red evf compatibility with Epic ? Is it still a problem, some of the evf working, some not ? Was a firmware fix/update provided ? Is returning the evf for upgrade still necessary ? Can we still take it for granted that returning the evf for upgrade is the worst we might have to face ?

For those of you using this combo, does the control wheel on the EVF work with Epic?

I asked about having my EVF evaluated. I just got the answer back today that RED would take it in and eval for $100 but could not guarantee that it would work for my cam when I get it, even if it worked in the lab. I was just looking to not wait for it later if it turns out not to be compatible.

I think I will wait for a week or two until my EPIC arrives to see. Crossing both fingers, toes and...........................Hoping.

RED response mentioned Firmware fix still maybe in the works and no guarantees on this either so...........

Glad to know it may just work. Has anybody tried to track what serial numbers work and which don't to see if it is a batch thing?

I have tested several R1 EVFs on my Epic the last few months, mainly for worried owners. Haven't come across a single one that didn't work perfectly.

I think the issue, while very real, may not be as prevalent as is being suggested.

Mine works fine and has been a real lifesaver in the absence of backordered items. Incidentally, the user keys on the our old EVF are even assignable to custom functions, but only work if you hold down the scroll wheel whilst pressing user key one or two, pressing any of the buttons by themselves has no effect and the scroll wheel itself is inactive.

We've tested many of them and they all seem to work fine. Mostly the discrepencies between them have all been isolated to the first few seconds on startup. Sometimes it turns GREEN, or PURPLE, or flickering... and then all of a sudden. POOF and everything snaps into place and works perfectly. But its tense for a moment while you see that stuff.... and you should see what we have coming. Let me tease you with this--Many of you will want your EVF!!
