What ??! I must have got you wrong...We may end up with either a R1 evf not working that was part of significant accessories that were promised to be compatible, or have to buy a bomb evf that some distinguished wildlife shooters here find useless with big telephotos in a recent post ! And red is not sure they will provide a firmware fix ??

My EVF did NOT work on EPIC last summer.

When my Scarlet arrived, it worked perfectly on that.

Last year, a lot of people were having problems with their EVF; relatively few seemed to work on EPIC.

Jarred posted that yes, there was an issue and some EVFs might need their firmware upgraded to work on EPIC - something than the EVF would have to be sent to RED for. It wasn't explicitly stated, but I can't imagine that would be anything other than a free service; they were supposed to be EPIC-compatible, as Denis said.

This year, I haven't heard many/any problems of EVFs working with EPIC/Scarlet. I imagine RED have managed to be even more clever in making the camera firmware work with most/all versions of the EVF firmware, but there hasn't been any further statement from RDC as far as I know. An update might be helpful...

+1. Mike, did you eventually got your R1 evf work ? Did you ask Red, and what was the answer ? I'm getting scared...

I didn't chase RED and didn't try it on anything other than a RED ONE until my Scarlet showed up. It worked perfectly on Scarlet. I can't imagine it would be any different on current EPIC firmware. I'll conduct further experiments at some point.

I think there may have been some changes in the firmware because last summer I had an Epic M on trial and my old EVF did not work with that. I had the Bomb to test as well and didn't like it as much as the old one but I ordered the Bomb because it was the only one that worked. However, when I got my Epic in November it worked perfectly so I cancelled the Bomb and bought a lens instead. Very happy.

Got my Stage 3 EPIC-X today. My EVF works, but only after it's unplugged and plugged in again.

what I don't quite understand is why there is no answer from red... R1 evf compatibility was announced. Bomb evf is rated as "useless" by distinguished users. And no one at Red to stop the idea that evf working or not working is a matter of mere luck, and that compatibility is for some of us, and not for others ?

While we have thee original evfs working on 3 epic, we had an issue recently with one of our cameras, and were told that the original evf is not officially supported by red so any problems we have while using that could be a result of incompatibility. They offered to evaluate the camera but being told that a supposed compatible product is not supported is fairly disheartening.

'Not supported'???? I certainly would hope someone from RDC would jump in on this one. Here's what Jarred said in September last year:

    http://reduser.net/forum/showthread....l=1#post813711

"The code to drive original EVF's are in EPIC... but it only works with specific versions of the EVF firmware. The original EVF firmware was not user upgradable, so owners of those existing EVF's that do not work will need to send the EVF's in for an upgrade when that firmware is complete, which it is not yet. Firmware is variable from EVF to EVF as components change, so we are still working on a firmware that will hopefully work with them all. No promises yet."

If it wasn't supported, if it wasn't supposed to be compatible, they wouldn't be cooking up firmware! AFAIK that's the last official word from RDC on this subject.
