The Redlink is on top of the camera. We still have the original epic X top grill on the cameras. The only thing I have ever had even close to the plastic Redlink cover was the nato rail top handle.

+1 Here. I wish I could say I'm having great luck, but I'm not. Plus the problem is intermittent which makes it more frustrating.
    It has been discussed here:
    http://reduser.net/forum/showthread....dMote-Wireless
to a lesser extent. But the problem has been around for many since DAY ONE.
Red Team, PLEASE offer a wired solution. Dock adapter for each end (body and back of RedMote) with a Lemo-connected cable in between. Offer a 3', 6', 25' and 50' cable. This would be useful on a daily basis as the AC could choose to Velcro or use the VF stealth mount to put the Redmote in a convenient spot (news flash: rear of the camera is MOST inconvenient 90% of the time)
Those of you who say a wired solution is useless because of the configuration of your other camera components, I get it. But at least we'd have a choice, and a solution "in a pinch". Right now there is NO solution if the wireless fails, except to mount it on the back,
    Cheers,
    Harry

How can you mount it on the back of the camera if you're powering the camera with the Red BackPack QuickPlate V Lock batteries or the x Quick Back?

How about having a link to the side handle ports, heck even have an antenna attachment or new RedLink to make the Remote work in wireless mode.

Sure, Rory, I'd be up for any solution that offers a wired connection. Hope Red is working on something there...
    Cheers,

So, is the statement "performance varies" all we're getting from Red? I was hoping they had advanced from having the stigma of being unreliable especially since I invested in their system. If their barometer for customer satisfaction is based off of what is posted on reduser, they are not getting an accurate representation.

    why?
it loses connection too often, its sadly not reliable enough for us.
and i am very cautious when giving out gear.
i learned from the red one that it takes quite some third party gear to make red cameras cinestyle ready, meaning
assecoires work in almost every condition very reliable.
(honestly i did not want to hear, the gear sucks, because the elic brain itself is again a tank, dont know how come that most assecoires are not so well build and most important not so well thought out, maybe AC's should test them heavily instead of single shooters?)

second thing we removed is the sidehandle, because it has a plastic feel. and the quality is unfortunetly also not so well.
(why is it impossible to lock the buttons?)
this brings a huge problem of course.
if you use a bomb, you can not really controll the camera. so again, its strange that you really cant controll the cam without the ts lcd.
    the redmote is cumbersome.
so, i wish something as a moduleadaptor with a 2nd monitor port.
the AC can use the TS LCD, the operator the bomb evf, and client can see through hdsdi.

and please, do something about the delay in the monitor path. the imgae on lcd and evf is stuttery on pans.
opengate would be very very welcome. and it would be cool if you can format a ssd without a sidehandle and redmote.
    only with the evf attached.
please red, see this a hints to make an awesome camera very very usable in a wide area of usuages.

when i shoot run and gun, i use the sidehandle/rpz and a sidehandle, totally enough. but sometimes i wish
    we would reach cinestyle point.
I can totally relate bro. The side handle needs a big re-design. The batteries pop out; the fly wheel pops off. It is plastic. What is drastic is it is the only real good piece of gear to control the camera. The REDMOTE ain't reliable and the screen doesn't work that well - especially outdoors.

I was told that 3rd party top plates can effect the connectivity range for the REDmote, so that must mean that RED top plates will allow you greater range with the REDmote?

PLEASE offer a wired solution, or allow someone to make this third party...we need this wired option asap. I'll take wired over wireless as it is the most rock solid option. Wireless is nice don't get me wrong, and I am loving my new camera.
