My Redmote is with a line of sight stable at least to 10m/30ft, but beyond this say a wall made of bricks may make the connection to come and go. There is a slight delay in updating the readings of Redmote compared to the LCD, but that's acceptable.

Under my fingers the functionality of the touchscreen depends on humidity, and I think the sensitivity in dry varies among the users. Probably I have more difficulties in dry than average users.

If you want wired control there is RS232 (or Ethernet), REDmote is designed as a wireless (or physically attached) solution.

Hi Stuart, by "physically attached" you mean to the back of the camera, right?
The issue is then you're tied into using RedVolts via the Quad Battery Module or have to have a swing away mount on back rails for V Lock or Anton Bauer batteries which is problematic.

Is there anyway to have the RedMote "physically attached" but not on the back of the camera? Say on the side where the Side Handle goes? This way you can keep the camera in a more ergonomic form factor.

A control software similar to PCC would be nice or just building that structure into REDcineX.

Stuart- We are in dire need of either of the protocols to control the camera.
Are they published anywhere? Pointing in the right direction would be much appreciated.

I have had my Redmote for a couple of weeks now and it works great! it links with the camera immediately, and has a decent range, even through walls, and when it loses signal with excessive distance, when you get back in range it connects immediately. Very satisfied!

    Ditto on this!!!

Is focus, iris, control available? Also could use some setup functions - I.e frame rate changes, white balance, etc

We have used a small circuit board for sending sending simple text strings to the Birger mount on R1 for focus, iris, and initialize functions - something like this would be awesome. All of my customers, both underwater and 3D (who are also Red customers) are asking for this.

Red already has an NDA on file from awhile ago, but happy to update if necessary.

I'm unclear how this would be implemented with Epic; where is the Ethernet port? And what software exists to control the camera?
C'mon. The Redmote is a cool way for the AC to see the camera data and control camera functions. I'd love to be able to offer it to my AC's on a Noga arm/ VF shuttle rig on the side of the camera, where they are sitting anyway, and have it not randomly power down and lose communication. Is it so hard to conceive of a little plate on the Redmote, a little plate at the back of the camera, and a wire in between?
It was an absolute paperweight on yesterday's job.
    Cheers,
    Harry

I'm I the only one getting crazy range? I got over 200 feet once (REDmote was inside a warehouse, camera was outside on steadicam rig). My only REDmote beef is the enter button issue but other then that, I'm not having any range issues. I usually keep it on camera to stay changed but when I use it I always take it off camera and use it's wireless.
