  1. #1 How Light?
What's the lightest you've gotten your RED ONE for handheld operation? Just curious.

Is this with drives or just cards? I guess you also wear a battery belt?

That's with CF Cards, Small Nikon lens, LCD, and carbon fiber rods. I then put the battery on belt and use a House of Power shoulder pad strapped directly to me. Can't remember if that weight was for 1 or 2 handles. Also, I'll have to weigh it again with the SSD and see how much that adds to the equation. But R1s can be configured to be light. It's when you thrown on PL glass, EVF, TC gadgetry, etc that the rigs get massive.

RED One with with 17-50 RPZ or 16-42 Optimo, a light-weight mattebox like the RED or Arri LMB-5, ET BOB, Side SSD module RED 5.6" LCD, and Mantis shoulder rig checks in 20lbs or slightly under, with SSD card installed and a filter or two in the MB. Battery not included - run that to the belt clip.

That or similar configurations are no heavier than many 2/3" broadcast cameras on the shoulder, or at least not by much. And those lenses are small and relatively light for PL glass. You add another 3lbs just by changing the lens from one of those lightweight zooms to a 25mm RPP, for example. The new /i Panchros or Zeiss CP's are decent size/weight for primes.

I use the ET 19mm ARRI base (old non-hybrid style) to mount the RED One to the Mantis. If I mount rods, I use carbon fiber.

dropping the Mantis and the ARRI base, you can lose a couple pounds. I used to go that way quite a bit. I like the uGrip handle system or the O'Connor O-Grips. And then wear a shoulder pad for the camera to rest on. A rig like the Mantis is nice. While it's heavier, it holds the camera better than simply resting it on a shoulder pad. My only real complaint with the Mantis is the lack of lateral adjustment for the grip handles and that it makes the camera sit up a bit high. Height-wise isn't so bad for me as I'm on the short side, but it can mess with the center of gravity somewhat if you start loading up the rig with too much crap or larger/heavier lenses.

  7. #7 Lightest i could get it
Here's a set up I use all the time... I made a bracket for the screen and use the battery belt clip. I made a nylon strap as a handle. I also mount a shotgun mic on the side from time to time...
