    Can you set up the camera to capture single stills?
    Or do have to pull the stills from a motion file?

    At this point you have to take the still from the motion file.

    YES. There is a button on the side-handle and the REDMOTE that switches between motion and still modes. It is not currently activated...

    I thought that was supposed to change the way the focus algorithm works?

    You could always set your DSMC to 1 fps and then probably start and stop the recording fast enough to get a one frame .R3D file.

    Well, yeah, that's a much better idea because unless you're starting recording remotely, there's bound to be some camera movement from the press of the record button. If you choose a frame other than the first or the last you'll probably find that it's sharper in most cases.
