  1. #1 EPIC HD-SDI not working
Hi, we are in the middle of a shooting and the HD-SDI stopped working. I am not on location but my staff followed the instructions
and re-set the monitor and all but still a no go. They changed to RED one that works as expected so it not cable trouble or monitor.
We run on 2.05 and preview on a TV logic monitor. Anyone had the same trouble? Is there any work around. I am flying there tonight to re-install
the camera and see myself what is happening... It is a long job dammit I hope it can be fixed... Any info will be much appreciated.

Our settings are: Frame base 25 frames/sec. HDMI off, HD-SDI Preview, Resolution 1080p, Frequency 50 Hz we also tried AUTO. The BNC cable is fine and the monitor is fine too cause responds immediately with the redone and we get image.

Can't think of anything that could cause that, outside of a monitor that needs to see PsF format, so can you send RED tech support a camera LOG file ? And / or you can send to me at stuart@red.com

Are you sure no one changed it to HDMI by accident in the menu?

Yes I am sure. I re-instsalled, upgraded to 2.0.8 beta, down graded back to 2.0.5, it is a no go.
Maybe it is a hardware problem. HDMI works but it is not ideal for the kind of job we are doing, with clients and director sitting
20 meters away under a tent... Anyone has any ideas? Anyone tried an HDMI to HD-SDI converter with success?

Maybe the cable got pulled and damaged the port?

    OR...

<After a bit of research since this just happened on our rental...>
If there were multiple devices (ie. monitors, converters, etc.) daisy-chained with BNC cables that have different impedances, it is possible to cause the signal reflection. This may fry any of the devices among the network. Since Epic currently has only one HD-SDI out port, we are forced to daisy-chain more devices within a network. Therefore, we have more chances to introduce the signal reflection.

How does it sound to you guys?

Should we terminate the end device in the chain like what we do with post equipment?

Luckily for us, the camera was okay. It was the TVLogic 7" monitor's HD-SDI port that got fried. Nevertheless, I still wonder if this happened by the signal reflection and if it could have fried any other devices in the chain. What do you guys think?

For us is a no go. Today we use the HDMI with all those problems etc... But we convert it to HD-SDI through a BON Recorder so for now it works ok. I am waiting from RED to let me now what exactly needs to be done... I sent the log file yesterday. But my thinking is that the HD-SDI port is burned or something. All those info are nice to know and kind of scary. We daisy chain also a bunch of devises and decimators cinelog HD monitors etc... It is a client world, what can you do? They judge the production through the preview comfort... I will report back how it will go today with the HDMI solution. But I cross my fingers that all will end up good... Thanks guys for the info.
