Just got my Scarlet today and after shooting some test footage and putting it in Redcine, it just won't link to AVID 5.0.

    Here's my procedure.

    - I put the r3d file in redcine and export it as a 1080 24p DNxHD 175 10bit file. exporting it out to a new folder on my desktop.
    - I then open up a new AVID project that's 1080 24p and try to link up the converted file.
    - I tried linking ama and importing with the aaf file, the mxf file, and the original r3d file. There's always an error or if something does import, it usually says the media is offline.

    What am i doing wrong??

Avid MXF mediafiles need to live in a very specific directory. The folder you placed them in, on your desktop, won't be seen as a mediafiles folder by Avid. Move the files to X:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\n, where 'X' can be any drive (fast enough for media) and 'n' can be any number (e.g. '1'). The naming needs to be exactly that, or MC won't see the media.

After you have done that, you won't have to link to the files. Just drag the AAF files to a bin. Or open the Media Tool for your media drive, and you should find the master clips right there, so you can drag them into bins.

Also make sure that if you're exporting to an internal drive you check in your permissions the root/boot drive is set to read & write -otherwise you won't be able to see the media.

Although the Avid.com landing page for RED has been offline for a few months now, the link to the 1 hour'ish video of different ways to work with R3D files is still available and should be viewed when using Avid for the first time with R3D workflow:

The version in the demo is v5 but workflow wise, it is the same for v6 whether it be Mac or PC. Epic/Scarlet audio support is available via the last R3D AMA plug-in update on www.avid.com/ama but I believe that only works with v6 of MC/Symphony. If you go the REDCINE X PRO route, then version of MC is not an issue.
