Thank you! This is great info.

So when is the camera in 12bit mode, or is it ever in a 12bit mode?

Also, is the stills mode identical in bit depth to the motion mode?

Martin: please re-read what Jarred wrote. As of right now there's no stills mode, when that is implemented we can talk about any differences, if there are any

My confusion over this is that your website spec page mentions 12bit, as in....

    "REDCODE™ 12 and 16-bit RAW : Compression choices of 18:1 to 3:1"

And so hence my persistence about what the 12 bit means.

Martin: Jarred is clarifying that you should only concern yourself with the 16-bit number. Forget about 12-bit.

16+ means 16-bit and up (32-bit is more)

Then the information on the website that lists the specs and features of the camera should be changed. One of the factors (a minor one, but a factor) in my decision to buy Epic instead of Scarlet was that I thought I was getting a CHOICE of 12 or 16 bit files. I figured that on jobs where minimizing file size/maximizing recording time on an SSD module was paramount, I could use 12 bit mode. Perhaps my lack of study of the whole RAW shooting thing has me misunderstanding what's even at stake, but the "normal" implication is that you'd have a choice affecting file size in a tradeoff with sampling depth/file size.
