    Help! How do I get RedAlert to output a 2k Quicktime from a 2k R3D? The best I can do is "High Quality" which ends up being 1024x512.

    Second, and this is something that has long bugged me, why are the clips SO much brighter in RedAlert than the Quicktime files? I do have the gamma compatibility check clicked in the Quicktime preferences. It's quite frustrating and something I never figured out.

    H = half res
    Q = qtr res
    P = proxy (1/8 res)

    You can't do Full resolution from 2k footage yet. That will come soon.

    The gamma shift is because quicktime player and FCP interpret gamma differently. FCP converts all 2.2 gamma footage to 1.8. "Enable FCS compatibility" seems to work sometimes but not for everyone.

    It's an apple issue we've been talking to apple about for a long time.

    thanks for the quick reply! As for the gamma issue, I'm not talking about FCP at all, just the maddening difference between RedAlert and Quicktime

    FCP is essentially an advanced GUI for Quicktime so they are one in the same.

    I am talking about QT not FCP. It interprets footage differently than FCS. "Enable FCS compatibility" in QT Player preferences is supposed to work but doesn't work for everyone for no good reason.

    what someone needs to do is make a "fix the gamma issues in FCP" website and ask people to register - like an "on-line" petition. we've been bitch'n about it for four years - every chance we get - I was once told "the number of people that will notice that shift you can count on one hand" -

    We all have to be more clear on what we mean when we say "QuickTime". You can't watch something in QuickTime since it's an API, file format and a facilitator for codecs.

    I *assume* when you say "watch in QuickTime" that you mean QuickTime *player*. Please be specific.

    Both QT player and Final Cut Pro adjust gamma for rec. 709 movies. Other applications like Shake, After Effects and Premiere don't.

    Also I seem to remember that Curves are not applied in yet in the QT codec, so if you have brightened the shot with a curve you wont see it in the Proxi.
