Gavin, you are correct. r3d's are proprietary and I am sure you were only being informational.

I have a few things that are my personal intellectual property as well. Nothing as big (yet) as redcode but I do understand the idea of keeping things to yourself to make sure that you can make a living from your hard work.

Open formats happen "after" someone has squeezed the best from it and then it makes sense to share around.

    Hey Gavin,

    Just checked out your reel.

Nice stuff! I am teaching my students how to do match-moving. Some of them are taking to it like fish to water. I am going to show them your reel.

I think my comments were more geared towards these sessions:

Seems they would be talking about all the "shot on Red"...and the advancement from R1 to Epic/Scarlet

    4K (and beyond!) Update
Not too long ago, 4K was a standard we hoped to achieve in filmmaking. This session will cover 4K and beyond, illustrating the maturity of cinema cameras and commercial projectors operating at 4K, and tracking work towards even higher resolution at capture. MORE

Speakers: Jim Houston, Starwatcher Digital; Hugo Gaggioni, Sony Electronics Inc.; Yoshiaki Shishikui, NHK Science and Technology Research Laboratories; Craig Todd, Dolby Laboratories Inc.

I would bet that the NAB people would've been glad to have Red on their various panels if they had offered.

I would agree, to omit Red from a discussion of 4K production and post is very foolish. I'll say this: Jim Houston is a very bright guy and knows Red workflow quite well.
