I have used lightworks since 1989, it's great with a controler, very flexiable interface, i find it intuitive and when working inside it's tool set - it's still my fav editor.. back then i had it paired with a Jaleo for finishing.. then it went into DOS3.1 purgatory, and Jaleo did a runner in North America, we did a lot of good work with that pair..
I switched to using MC for creative mainly and finishing on DS.
I have a new dedacated HP8600 + Lightworks machine now, and have Lightworks installed on all 5 of my MC seats, many of the editors that work on my machines used Lightworks earlier, so there's a very short learning curve
The subscription version is well worth the tiny amount of cash asked for, and yea it runs r3d's as well as the machine underneath it will..... Stereo tools are minimal, but then so are the one's in MC/FCP/PP - enough to get "Hugo's" story told... not enough to get a sense of when/can a shot can be saved tho.. for that you need tools beyond what any creative edit system offers.

I have had the current Beta version on my laptop for a year now. Like the interface, but haven't had much time to really learn it in depth . So far it runs fine for casual editing of DV footage from my old Canon GL2.
They are pretty close to releasing the full PC version, an Alpha test version is available but you have to apply for it. Not posted on the download site. Hopefully the full package will be available by NAB.
Lightworks doesn't get spoken about out there as much as PP, MC or FCP but, to many - including some of the biggest names in feature film editing - it's the best NLE available. Used to sell as a turnkey solution for hundreds of thousands of dollars and you should still look at it that way. Very powerful, very fast but be prepared for a learning curve. It's a lot different to the rest of them.
For me it's still the best. Learned NL editing on Lightworks, moved onto Avid, then FCP. It's very odd but I still think I can get a better cut, faster on Lightworks.
Thank you all, thanks for your valued information
Any update here now that the full version has been released?
Yes - new version here:

I have not tried it yet... I think you need the paid licence to get it working with RED footage.
I'm looking for a comparison of PPro and Lwks as far as working with R3D's goes. Anyone with experience in both?
