  1. #1 Element Technica ARRI Baseplate/O'Connor 1030 head Compatible Dovetail Length Poll
I was curious as to what dovetail lengths other REDUSERS would prefer for the new Element Technica Arris Baseplate compatible/O'Connor 1030 head Compatible Dovetail to be. I am thinking the 12 inch dovetail will be the most popular but others may want it to be shorter.

I'm going for 9", which is the maximum size that's convenient for keeping the dovetail on the head at all times. Remember you have almost twice that length in actual balancing because you can slide the camera and the dovetail in concert.

And I would assume there is more then one mounting hole on the baseplate itself.

    Chuck,

There will likely be no 3/8-16 mounting holes along the center of this particular dovetail. The center is occupied with a 1/4" wide slot as part of the OConnor safety.
The standard Arri/OConnor2060-2575 dovetail has the mounting holes you're referring to and is definately the most economical choice.

Must be missing something here. How does the base plate attach to the head if there is no threaded hole?

By euro plate do you mean there is a quick release plate incorperated into the base plate itself?

    thanks,

I agree with everything you said but 9" was not in the poll so I went for 10". It also seems to me you will probable get to the weight limit of the 1030 head before you could use all of the range of a 12" Dovetail.

DISREGARD*********** I would think 12" would be the minimum you would want, since you can no longer position the QR plate in relation to the dovetale. Which limits how much range you have to balance the camera. Digital Cameras are rarely back heavy, so I would urge ET to offset the QR part of the dovetale towards the front of the unit.

EDIT: I'm A CRACK BABY. I forgot the QR system on the 1030 is on a dovetale that slides through the head.
