Does the new RC3 and RG3 work with Premiere Pro 5.5? Do I have to update anything? What's the scoop?

    Thanks!

They don't, I was wondering if there's a way to get them to work.

Not yet. Could be a CS6 thing, but CS5.5 with the current Adobe LABS Epic importer only supports RC2/RG2.

You have to transcode to an intermediate with RedCine-X

But transcoding negates the chief benefit of Premiere Pro ...

Even wth a Red Rocket I'm finding Adobe Media Encoder very slow at transcoding compared to RedCine-X. Especially when going down from 4k to 1080p.

I don't know about that! The more I use the Poduction Premium Suite, the more I am becoming adicted to the awesome interconnectivity provided in Adobe Bridge. Moving clips & sequences from PPro in and out of AE and Encore and Audition, without any penalty of time or complication is brilliant.

I do 90% of my color correction in Resolve, so working in a traditional on/off line model is quite supportive of paying the pain of transcoding once up front, in exchange for light processing needed in the edit. For longer form projects like I do it just does not make sense to edit native R3D, when the only time I really need access to the R3Ds is in the final color correction.

Adobe have said they are focused on supporting RED footage, so I'm hopeful there will be a support update for RC3 very soon.
Waiting till the release of 6 would be disappointing.

Much like audio, pretty sure there was a patch/hack work around posted on here only recently,
but quite a lot of users have been asking for this functionality for awhile...

When I trim the Red footage in RedCine X it automatically dumps a wav file in the same directory. You just pull that into Premiere, line them up and link them. There's no workaround required. This is from Red Epic footage in a Windows 7 environment.

Yes, I suppose we should take into account that RedCode 3 has only been released for a couple of days. Transcoding is probably a good temporary workaround. Even transcoded at one quarter debayer the footage looks great!
