Thats really a subjective decision. Personally I prefer the Ultra Primes, half the price and weight...but your mileage will vary.

You should rent both and make a decision based on your budget and personal preferences.

The beauty of lenses as opposed to electronics (RED) is that they hold their value much longer, I purchased my Ultra Primes over 2 years ago and I bet I could sell them today for about the same price. Used standard speeds are selling today for the same and sometimes more than what they cost new years ago.

Delivery dates are very good, but also depends on the focal length you are interested in, I for one like a couple of 150s, one 100 and one 65mm + the LWZ-1.

Pricing ranges from about $21,000 up to $30,000 something, each focal length has different pricing and availability, but then again every dealer and reseller might vary both in pricing and delivery dates.

I prefer not to post pricing as I don't know if I can.

PM me if you need more info.

BTW I also get a tiny discount.

I people want specific pricing and delivery times they can contact one of our sales people at Abel Cine Tech. It is far too broad a question for me to answer quickly, which is why I tried the approximate "RED currency."

Actually I like it, it was very well understood on this end.

Some times pricing might (and will be ) different from dealer to dealer, but one think I know is that any time I deal with any one that has purchased from you guys at Abel, they have nothing but great thinks to say about service and costumer support in general ( not pricing ).

Also some time is best to deal with sources like Abel as they might understand better the spirit of this community and what can be achieved in sales.

Mitch your presence here I'm sure is greatly appreciated, just make sure that your sale people know who they are dealing with when REDUSERs are involved, as not all of as are professionals with great knowledge of all products and patient and specific pricing Q? are going always to be main concerns.

I know I'll contact you guys soon.

Ketch, I fully appreciate what you're saying. It's part of the reason that I'm the one on the forum here instead of a Sales person. If anyone has a question I'm happy to shepherd the info and we deal with all sorts at Abel. It's our job to inform the client, not to expect them to inform us. Abel is a Solutions Center.

Yeah and it is also important that business is conducted in the way I know ( indirectly ) Abel does, were each individual is considered a costumer no matter what He or She might be buying or questioning about.

Our financials, especially in this industry can go from good to bad and from not so good to great, at times I found myself buying gear from BIG companies that are used to sale entire stocks of merchandise to Big Studios, we are not Big, at list not yet, but anything can change overnight with just one project getting financed.

What I'm trying to say is that what is also appreciated is the way Abel conducts business with no discrimination if you want to buy one lens or an entire set, as today it is just one lens but tomorrow could very well be an entire set or multiple ones all together, and service should not be any different to one or the other costumer.

Again Mitch I look forward to do some business with you at ABel, and I know you understand that if pricing is not in line with other dealers I currently deal with you will excuse me if I buy else were.

I want every client to do what he is comfortable doing. If that means going somewhere else, then so be it. Sometimes we direct people elsewhere when we realize they could be beter served.

    Thanks for your statements.

I looked and compared these lenses (Master, COOKE S4, Ultra primes etc) under lens projection and no other lens can out do the master primes resolution. They're nice and sharp all the way out to the corners of the lens, which no other lens is, by far. It also covers a larger area then the others (not that it means that much, since they all cover the RED sensor, but anyway).

They're beautifully crafted german engineering no doubts. Everything else is a preference. Personally I think they're to sharp for my taste.
