  1. #1 EPIC footage - EDL from Avid in Redcine X does not work
    Hi there,

i have a question about importing an Avid EDL into Redcine X.
The footage was shot with Red Epic. I generated DNxHD 36 MXF files using Redcine X. Now the edit is finished and i wanted to use an EDL to export DNxHD 185x files for online. When i import the file16 EDL into Redcine X there are only blank clips with red Xs in the bin. When i import an EDL with Red One footage it works just fine.
Since i donīt have MC 6 i cannot ama link the Red footage into Avid and the Redcine X workflow is the only way. With Red One i could just relink to the ama files and transcode inside Avid. Iīm using Redcine X version 506.
    Thanks,
    Silke

Make sure in preferences/import/relinking - that "replace with slug" is checked. An EDL is an EDL is no different because of Red One versus Scarlet, so it has to be that version of REDCINE or a setting.

    Hi Michael,
thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested but now there are no clips added to the bin. Before that there were clips with a red x in the thumb.
Iīve tried an edl with epic footage from another project, because i thought that maybe there was something wrong in the transcoding process in redcine x before the edit. But still no luck importing this edl into redcine.
    Any other ideas?

    Hi Silke,

If you send your edl and a verbose RCX log file to redcinex at red dot com I'll be happy to take a look.

    Cheers,
    David

I've been having problems with Avid EDL's in RedcineX. It either wont come in or crashes the program. I never had a problem before but I'm wondering if the editor renamed the files in Avid and is making it near impossible to relink to the R3D's in RedcineX. I'm having the same problem in Resolve with most of the clips coming through but a handful that wont regardless of what I do.

Can you copy/paste a few lines of the EDL here? And what version of MC are the EDL's being generated from?

    David, Michael,
sorry for getting back to you so late. I tried the whole thing with yet another project and epic footage and this time it worked. The difference to the first try was that the original red file was not named as it should be A001C001 and so on. They renamed them with the shot names. Stupid i guess. Maybe that was the problem there, although the names in the edl corresponded with the originals. This could also be the problem with Mattīs edl.
This time the original names of the masterclips were not changed, and we made subclips in avid. The edl was a file 16 and on import i checked replace with slug as Michael suggested. The clips from the edl appear in the bin and all is well.
I have one last question though. What should i select on import under source out timecode? I would think inclusive since the avid adds one frame in the edl as out. Right?
    Thanks for your help,
    Silke

EDL's are generally exclusive on the out point and they all are in Avid EDL templates. And changing clip name shouldn't affect the EDL as you can choose from TAPE, LABROLL, or CAMROLL within EDL Manager to use as source in EDL. If AMA was used, TAPE will roll over to SOURCE FILE as needed.
